P Generale è partito per il Bangladesh il 28 ottobre per partecipare al Capitolo Regionale, che si tiene a Khulna dal 3 al 6 novembre. Rientra a Roma l’8 novembre.

Vicario e P: Peguero Pérez sono in Colombia dal 1° al 24 novembre per la visita ai confratelli.

SIERRA LEONE

Oggi, 31 Ottobre, a Makeni P. Natale Paganelli viene ordinato Vescovo dal Nunzio Apostolico Mons. Miroslaw Adamczyk, assistito dal Vescovo di Kenema e da Mons. Giorgio Biguzzi.

Natale, da più di tre anni Amministratore Apostolico, continuerà in questo servizio che eserciterà da ora come Vescovo.

Nella lettera di annuncio alla Diocesi il Prefetto di Propaganda, Card. Filoni, ha scritto: ”Il Santo Padre considera P. Paganelli, membro di un Istituto Missionario che ha dato e continuerà a dare tutto per l’evangelizzazione, la persona più adatta per servire la vostra Chiesa in nome suo”.

Permane preoccupante la situazione socio-politica del paese: continuano violenze e uccisioni soprattutto contro persone e quartieri che hanno manifestato contro il terzo mandato dell’attuale presidente. E nemmeno la Chiesa e le sue strutture sono risparmiate. Comunità europea e africana, diplomazie, società civile e le Chiese del Paese sono impegnate nel difficile tentativo di far dialogare le parti in conflitto. Le comunità Saveriane per ora non sono state toccate.

USA

Salt Lake City, Utah, 15-19 ottobre: quattro confratelli hanno rappresentato i Missionari Saveriani alla riunione del Parliament of World’s Religions. Erano presenti più di 9000 persone provenienti da ogni parte del mondo per sostenere il dialogo e la collaborazione tra le fedi, e per lottare contro l’odio religioso, presentando molti casi di obiettivi raggiunti, approfittando dell’eco creato dai social media. P. Carl Chudy ha organizzato una presentazione del dialogo tra credenti e non credenti in collaborazione con un Mussulmano e due amici umanisti.

DELEGAZIONE CINESE

Il 27 ottobre, 71° anniversario della morte di Mons. Luigi Calza, le suore Giuseppine hanno aperto le celebrazioni del centenario di fonda-zione dell’Istituto: dopo la Santa Messa, si sono recate alla tomba di Mons. Calza e a quella di alcune suore dei primi tempi. Si sono preparate all’evento con un approfondimento del loro carisma partendo dal libro di P. Luca Calza e le Suore Giuseppine e con un triduo a S. Giuseppe. Nel corso dell’anno sono previste altre celebrazioni.

28 Oct: the Superior General left on a visit to Bangladesh, where he will attend the Regional Chapter, which will take place in Khulna (3-6 November). He is scheduled to return to Rome on 8 November.

1-24 Nov: the Vicar General and Fr. Peguero Pérez will visit the confreres in Colombia.

SIERRA LEONE

31 Oct: Fr. Natale Paganelli will be ordained bishop by the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Miroslaw Adamczyk, who will be assisted by the bishop of Kenema and Bishop Biguzzi.

Fr. Natale has served the Diocese as Apostolic Administrator for more than three years and will now continue to do so as a bishop.

The Prefect of Propaganda Fide, Cardinal Filoni, wrote to the Diocese of Makeni: “The Pope looks upon Fr. Paganelli, who is a member of a Missionary Institute that has given all, and will continue to give all, for the cause of evangelization, as the most suitable person to serve your Church in his name”.

BURUNDI

The social and political situation of the country continues to be a cause of concern with ongoing violence and murder, especially against people and districts that protested against the third mandate of the current President. Not even the Church and her structures have been spared. Efforts are being made by the European and African communities, diplomatic missions, civil society and the country’s Churches to bring the conflicting parties to dialogue with each other. So far, none of the Xaverian communities has been affected.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

Salt Lake City, Utah, 15-19 Oct: four confreres represented the Xaverian Missionaries at the meeting of the Parliament of World’s Religions. More than 9000 people came from all over the world to support dialogue and cooperation among the religions and oppose religious hate. Many success stories were presented and, tapping into the power of social media, Fr. Carl Chudy organized a panel presentation on theist/secular dialogue and collaboration, along with a Muslim, Unitarian Universalist and two humanist friends.

CHINESE DELEGATION

27 Oct: to mark the 71^st anniversary of the death of Bishop Luigi Calza, the Josephine Sisters opened the celebrations of the centenary of the foundation of their Institute: after Mass they went to the tomb of the bishop and the tomb of some of the very first sisters. They prepared for the event by reflecting on their charism with the help of the book by Fr. Luca: Calza e le Suore Giuseppine, and with a triduum in honor of St. Joseph. Other celebrations will take place during the year.
