…Alcuni di noi superstiti di quel drappello di 25 baldi giovani, che nel lontano 25 ottobre del 1964 furono ordinati presbiteri per la missione, trovandoci occasionalmente in Casa Madre, a Parma, abbiamo pensato di commemorare in anticipo la ricorrenza del nostro memorabile sessantennio, Domenica 8 settembre 2024…

…Missione fa rima con Passione e trova la sua formulazione espressiva nel grido di San Paolo nella seconda lettera ai Corinzi: “Caritas Christi urget nos” (2 Cor.5:14), che fu poi l’anima dell’Audace Progetto per la missione del nostro fondatore San Guido M. Conforti. Il nome missione trova oggi spazio soprattutto nelle tavole rotonde delle discussioni teologiche, ma la spinta missionaria, come intesa da San Paolo e fatta propria dal nostro Fondatore, si è molto affievolita, se non addirittura spenta. Era proprio la passione per il Cristo che ti teneva inchiodato sulla riva del fiume Kopotokko in balia delle intemperie e dei cicloni per 12 anni senza corrente, senza telefono e senza mass media. Puoi chiamare questa retorica o mistificazione della missione, per me si tratta invece della storia di un’avventura d’amore, al cui centro c’era Lui, che ti sosteneva e di cui avvertivi la presenza. “Signore, tu ci sei; manifestati a me. Se tu ti manifesti, io vivo!” (Borodol, Bangladesh 31.08.1978). “Io sono qui, perché’ tu sei qui con me e mi riempi di gioia! Se tu fossi lontano da me, io fuggirei!” (Borodol, Bangladesh 02.09.1979). Ma i tempi sono cambiati. Nel corso della storia le rivoluzioni ed i cambiamenti epocali non si contano e ai nostri tempi si susseguono ad un ritmo impressionante. Nel frastuono e nella frenesia dei cambiamenti è ancora avvertibile il grido di San Paolo, fatto proprio dal nostro Fondatore?...

…Questo secondo esodo ci permette di attuare la missione ad extra, che è la seconda caratteristica, che ci costituisce Saveriani, accanto ad gentes e ad vitam. L’attitudine dell’uscita dal nostro io ci permette di entrare in punta di piedi nel paese in cui siamo chiamati a rendere presente la missione di Gesù, senza presunzione o pretesa di insegnare, ma con la precisa coscienza che imparare la lingua del popolo, conoscere storia, cultura e tradizioni sono l’ABC della missione. Lo slogan di una volta era “Essere apostoli, conservando dentro sempre l’attitudine del discepolo”!... (Antonio Germano “Das” sx)

…Some of us survivors of that group of 25 "audacious" young men who were ordained to the missionary priesthood back on October 25, 1964, finding ourselves occasionally in the Mother House in Parma, thought we would commemorate in advance the anniversary of our memorable 60^th on Sunday, September 8, 2024…

…Mission rhymes with Passion and finds its vivid formulation in Saint Paul's cry in the Second Letter to the Corinthians: "Caritas Christi urget nos - For the love of Christ impels us" (2 Cor. 5:14). Later on, this became the heart of the "Audace Progetto – Dearing Project" of our Founder San Guido M. Conforti. Today, the term mission finds its place mainly around the tables of theological discussions. Still, as understood by Saint Paul and made his own by our Founder, the missionary thrust has faded, if not extinguished. It was precisely the passion for Christ that kept me pinned down for 12 years on the bank of the Kopotokko River at the mercy of severe weather and cyclones without electricity, telephone, and mass media. You may call this rhetoric or mystification of mission, but for me, it is the story of a love adventure, at the center of which was Him, who sustained me and whose presence I felt. "Lord, you are here; reveal yourself to me. If you reveal yourself, I live!" (Borodol, Bangladesh 08.31.1978). "I am here because you are here with me, and you fill me with joy! If you were far from me, I would run away!" (Borodol, Bangladesh 02.09.1979). But times have changed. Throughout history, revolutions and epochal changes have been countless, and in our times, they have followed one another at an impressive pace. In the noise and frenzy of changes, is the cry of Saint Paul, appropriated by our Founder, still noticeable?...

…This second exodus enables us to realize the mission ad extra, the second characteristic that constitutes us as Xaverians, alongside ad gentes and ad vitam. The attitude of stepping out of our ego allows us to tiptoe into the country where we are called to make present the mission of Jesus, without presumption or pretension to teach, but with the precise consciousness that learning the language of the people, knowing their history, culture, and traditions are the ABC of mission. The slogan of the past was "Being apostles while always maintaining the attitude of the disciple."!... (Antonio Germano "Das" s.x.)
