Il nostro confratello p. Alfiero Ceresoli, missionario in Brasile, membro della comunità saveriana di Curitiba, Brasile Sud, 88 anni compiuti la settimana scorsa, condivide una riflessione dal titolo “Sognando ad Gentes”.
Nel suo scritto p. Alfiero afferma: “…Sto celebrando il 60º anniversario della mia ordinazione sacerdotale (25.10.1964 n.r.d.). Mi sia permesso il tentativo di scrivere quello che mi gira per la testa. Proprio a cominciare dalla data: perché commemorare quella del sacerdozio e non quella della consacrazione a Dio per la missione? Il Saveriano, in perfetta armonia con il pensiero confortiano, è definito “il consacrato a Dio” e non “il sacerdote” di Dio (Cost. 1). Questo passaggio dal sacerdote al consacrato non sarebbe una vera pasqua? Audace, finalmente!...”. “…credo che vi siano strade nuove da percorrere, occorre il coraggio di una vera conversione pasquale. Se ci guardiamo attorno con un poco di attenzione vedremmo molti esempi di strade nuove per vivere la sequela di Cristo e modalità diverse di evangelizzare fuori dalle mura…”.
Più avanti, p. Alfiero annota: “…noi continuiamo nelle parrocchie, dentro confini ben delineati. Le abbiamo anche chiamate “missionarie”. Un tentativo. La parrocchia, se è cattolica è missionaria, sia o non sia chiamata come tale. Oltre la parrocchia, quale attività abbiamo? Qualche corso vocazionale… Una riunione di giovani provenienti dalle parrocchie… Ma le “genti” dove le incontro? È possibile immaginare, o accettare, qualche attività propria, nostra, propriamente nostra perché diretta ai non cristiani? O almeno a quelli che in chiesa non vanno!...”.
Per poi chiosare: “…questa settimana passo gli 88 anni. Se il buon Dio mi regala ancora qualche mese di vita, potrò incontrare e camminare insieme a qualche non cristiano? Ho chiesto al mio Superiore Regionale di darmi una tenda. La metterei ai lati di una strada, nello spazio di un rifornimento di benzina, ma lasciatemi incontrare qualche non cristiano, camminare con lui, parlargli della gioia di essere uomo o donna, creati da un Dio che è padre e, chissà, parlargli anche del fratello Gesù Cristo. Lo dico e lo chiedo per me, ma lo vedo come possibile futuro per la presenza Saveriana in Brasile…”.

Our confrere Fr. Alfiero Ceresoli last week celebrated his 88th birthday. A missionary in Brazil, he belongs to the Xaverian community in Curitiba (south Brazil). Below, he shares a reflection entitled: Sognando ad Gentes (Dreaming ad Gentes).
Fr. Alfiero writes: “I am celebrating the 60th anniversary of my ordination to the priesthood [October 25th, 1964 – ed.]. Please, allow me to try to write what is on my mind. I would begin from the date: why commemorate the day of one’s priestly ordination rather than that of one’s consecration to God for the mission? To be in perfect harmony with Conforti’s thought, the Xaverian is defined as ‘one consecrated to God’, rather than ‘a priest’ of God (Const. 1). Would this passage from priest to consecrated one [as highlighted in the Constitutions] not be a true Passover? Finally, an audacious Passover!... I believe that there are new paths to be followed, and that there is the need for a true Easter conversion. If we pay attention, we will discover that around us there are many examples of new ways to live the discipleship of Christ and different ways of evangelising beyond our walls…
Later in his script, Fr. Alfiero remarks: “We keep working in parishes, within well-defined borders. We’ve even called them ‘missionary’ parishes. This is but an attempt. If it is really a Catholic one, a parish is a missionary parish and there is no need to call it so. However, besides parishes, which other activities are we carrying out? Some vocational programmes… a meeting with youth coming from the parishes… Yet, where do I meet the gentes [the non-Christians – tr.]? Is it possible to imagine, or accept, some activity which is ours, particularly ours, because it addresses the non-Christians? Or at least addresses those who do not go to church?...”
He then explains: “This week I mark my 88th year of age. If the good Lord gives me a few more months to live, will I be able to meet and walk together with some non-Christians? I have asked my Regional Superior to give me a tent. I would put it on the side of a road, in the pitch of a petrol station, but let me meet some non-Christians, walk with them, talk to them about the joy of being a man or a woman created by a God who is a father, and, maybe, talk to them also about their brother Jesus Christ. I say this and ask it for me, but I consider it as a possible future for the Xaverian presence in Brazil.”
