I pp. Fernando García Rodríguez e il Consigliere Generale, referente per l'Asia, Franciscus Xaverius Sudarmanto, dal 16 ottobre al 12 novembre 2025, hanno visitato tutti i Saveriani che lavorano in Giappone nelle loro sedi; prima nella zona del Kyushu e poi in quella del Kansai. Hanno partecipato anche all'Assemblea di studio, tenutasi nella casa regionale di Izumisano dal 3 al 7 novembre.

Giornate molto intense, durante le quali abbiamo ripreso le nuove sensibilità missionarie emerse dai Documenti del XVIII Capitolo Generale, in particolare la conversione continua del missionario e la missione affidata alla comunità Saveriana, non più al singolo. Abbiamo avuto l'opportunità di ospitare un confratello dalla Cina, che ci ha testimoniato concretamente come loro riescano a vivere la missione uniti nonostante le distanze. I confratelli, divisi in gruppi, hanno condiviso le loro riflessioni cercando di rispondere ad alcune domande prestabilite.

Il Vescovo di Fukuoka, mons. Abella, già Superiore Generale dei Missionari Clarettiani, ci ha parlato da amico di come si possa fare missione collaborando con altre province e di come lui veda il futuro della missione in Giappone.

In questa Assemblea sono stati presentati diversi documenti: quello sulla cultura della tutela (in fase finale); sui primi cinque anni di missione in Giappone; e su come organizzare meglio i nostri esercizi spirituali comunitari annuali. Abbiamo parlato di famiglia carismatica e della necessità di condividere la missione con i laici e gli amici.

Insieme a preti, suore e laici, il 5 novembre abbiamo festeggiato il nostro Fondatore, S. Guido Maria Conforti, e concluso il settantacinquesimo anno di presenza Saveriana in Giappone. È stato presentato il volume speciale che descrive la nostra missione lungo questi settantacinque anni; un'opera corale, scritta a più mani, che può aiutare a capire cosa significhi la parola "missione" in Giappone.

Abbiamo pregato sulle tombe dei Saveriani che hanno lavorato prima di noi, sepolti nel cimitero cattolico non lontano dalla casa regionale.

Noi tutti Saveriani del Giappone, un gruppo piuttosto attempato con una media di 40 anni di missione diretta in questo magnifico paese, abbiamo ringraziato il Signore per l'arrivo degli ultimi rinforzi missionari: i sei giovani che stanno affrontando la sfida della lingua e che rappresentano il futuro della nostra missione. Ringraziamo la Direzione Generale e tutti i Saveriani del mondo che, in forme e modi diversi, vivono la stessa missione, uniti dallo stesso carisma. ( Silvano Da Roit s.x.)

From October 16^th to November 12^th, 2025, Fr. Fernando García Rodríguez and the General Councillor, interlocutor for Asia, Fr. Franciscus Xaverius Sudarmanto have paid a visit to all the Xaverians who work in Japan by going to their homes. They first visited the area of Kyushu, then that of Kansai. They also took part in the Assembly of study that was held at the regional house in Izumisano from November 3^rd to 7^th.

These were very full days, during which we acquainted ourselves with the new missionary guidelines emerging from the XVIII General Chapter, in particular with the call for the missionary’s constant conversion and with the fact that the mission is entrusted to the Xaverian community rather than to the individual Xaverian. Among us was a confrere from China who illustrated how, there, they manage to live out the mission united despite distances. Confreres were split into groups where they shared their reflections in answer to predetermined questions. The Bishop of Fukuoka, Msgr. Abella, former Superior General of the Clarettian Missionaries, talked to us like a friend about possible ways to carry out the mission in collaboration with other provinces and about his view of the future of mission in Japan.

During this assembly, several documents were presented: one on the culture of safeguarding (cultura della tutela) whose draft is at the final stage; one on the first five years of missionary work in Japan; and one on how to organise the yearly community spiritual exercises in a better way. We talked about charismatic family and the need to share the mission with the laity and friends.

On November 5^th, together with priests, nuns and lay people, we celebrated our Founder, St Guido Maria Conforti, and concluded the 75^th year of Xaverian presence in Japan. A special book on our mission along these 75 year was presented. It is multi-voices work, co-written by different people, which can help understand what the work “mission” in Japan means.

We prayed on the tombs of the Xaverians that worked here before us and are now buried in the Catholic cemetery not far from our regional house.

All the Xaverians in Japan – a rather elderly group that on average has 40-year-long experience of direct mission in this magnificent country – thanked the Lord for the arrival of the latest missionary reinforcement: six young confreres that are now facing the challenge of the language and represent the future of our mission. We thank the General Direction and all Xaverians throughout the world who live our same mission in different forms and ways, but united by the same charism. (Silvano Da Roit s.x.)
