Dal 2 al 6 maggio 2022 presso la casa delle suore di Caritas a Beppu-Kyusu, ci siamo ritrovati per gli Esercizi Spirituali annuali, guidati dal vescovo ausiliare della Diocesi di Osaka, Mgr. Paulo Sakai Toshihiro. Hanno partecipato 15 confratelli. Ragioni di salute e di impegni, hanno impedito alcuni confratelli di prendervi parte.

Il vescovo ci ha aiutato molto a riflettere sul tema della preghiera, dell’ Eucaristia, della diversità-comunione e amore fraterno, i voti, la situazione del mondo di oggi (gender-LGBT), la nostra risposta – come missionari - a questa realtà. La riflessione ha toccato il tema anche della santità di vita. Particolare attenzione è stata data alla figura di Maria come modello della vita missionaria.

Siamo stati particolarmente colpiti dal forte richiamo del predicatore sulla capacità di rendersi conto della bellezza del sacerdozio, come grazia incondizionata del Signore per il suo popolo. Un dono da offrire altrettanto gratuitamente cominciando dalla gente che vive accanto a noi affinché conoscano il Signore in profondità e si innamorino di Lui. Un altro aspetto particolarmente bello è stato quello di vivere questi giorni insieme: nella preghiera, nella condivisione a tavola, nelle passeggiate e nella serata trascorsa nella fraternità con canti, storielle e freddure della vita quotidiana.

Mgr. Paolo Sakai stesso è stato molto contento di trascorrere questi giorni insieme a noi, esprimendo la sua gratitudine per l’impegno missionario dei Saveriani in Giappone. Il superiore regionale, p. Felipe de Jesús Orozco López sx, nel suo intervento conclusivo ha espresso il suo ringraziamento per la partecipazione agli Esercizi Spirituali, sottolineando che grazie a questi momenti di preghiera, il Signore ci dona copiose benedizioni per crescere sempre di più nello zelo apostolico. From May 2^nd to 6^th, 2022, we gather for the yearly Spiritual Exercises in the house of the Caritas Sisters in Beppu-Kyusu. The retreat was led by Msgr. Paulo Sakai Toshihiro, auxiliary bishop of Osaka Diocese. 15 confreres took part. Due to health reasons and other commitments, some confreres could not participate. The bishop helped us reflect on the themes of prayer, Eucharist, diversity and communion, fraternal love, the religious vows, the situation of the world today (gender-LGTB issues), and our response to this reality as missionaries. The reflection touched also upon the topic of holiness of life. Special attention was paid to Mary as model of missionary life.

We have been particularly touched by the preacher’s strong call to become aware of the beauty of priesthood – a unconditional grace God gives to his people. It is a gift to be given in an equally free manner to other, starting from the people who live next to us, so that they may know the Lord in depth and may love Him. Another particularly beautiful aspect of the retreat was the life spent together during those days: in prayer, by sharing the same table, during walks and the evening of fraternity, with songs, stories and jokes from daily life.

Msgr. Paolo Sakai too was very happy to spend the days with us, and expressed gratitude for the missionary commitment of the Xaverian in Japan. At the end, our Superior Regional, Fr. Felipe de Jesús Orozco López, thanked everyone for the participation in the Spiritual Exercises and stressed the fact that it is through similar moments of prayer that the Lord fills us with blessings which allow us to grow in apostolic zeal ever more.
