CHIAYI 嘉義 - SUD-OVEST DELL’ISOLA DI TAIWAN: NUOVA APERTURA MISSIONARIA

9 Octobre 2026

(Edi Foschiatto sx)

CHIAYI 嘉義 - SOUTH-WEST OF THE ISLAND OF TAIWAN: A NEW MISSIONARY PRESENCE

Following a Xaverian presence of over thirty years in the Diocese of Taipei at the building – “hostel” built by our late confrere, Fr Enrico Frassineti, (between 1967 and 1970), and after a period of community discernment, the decision was taken to establish a new Xaverian missionary presence in the Diocese of CHIAYI (嘉義), situated just beyond the centre of the island of Taiwan.

The welcome received by the bishop, the local clergy and the religious life (men and women) was, to say the least, a warm one. An atmosphere of friendship and familiarity was immediately felt.

Fr Fabrizio Tosolini’s teaching at the Theological College, the work carried out with young missionaries over the years, and the football matches have all helped to forge these bonds of familiarity.

The official introduction by the bishop, Monsignor Norbert Pu (浦英雄), to the diocesan clergy will take place on Tuesday, October 13, during the priests’ monthly retreat.

The installation of the Xaverian new parish priest will be on Sunday, October 18, whereas the presentation of the new director for the Centre of Missionary Spirituality will be on Sunday, October 25.

A new beginning with many challenges (social, cultural, linguistic…) and the need for everyone’s prayers. (Edi Foschiatto, sx)
