“La gestione del denaro non è mai neutrale”, ma comporta sempre responsabilità morali e sociali. Per questo gli investimenti devono essere coerenti con la missione della Chiesa e orientati al bene comune. È questo il perno attorno a cui ruota la pubblicazione delle “Linee guida in materia di investimenti etici e sostenibili” della Conferenza episcopale italiana. Un testo, diffuso giovedì 21 maggio 2026, ma approvato dal Consiglio episcopale permanente il 24 marzo 2026, che rivede le indicazioni proposte nel 2020 e che verrà presentato ufficialmente il 9 giugno a Milano, nella sede di Borsa italiana.

Si tratta di un testo che presenta “un aggiornamento necessario, in un mondo che cambia rapidamente”, indirizzato essenzialmente a diocesi, parrocchie ed enti religiosi alle prese con il “risk management” e la gestione di investimenti e portafoglio titoli.

Il documento insiste sul principio della “destinazione universale dei beni”, richiamando il Concilio Vaticano II e la costituzione Gaudium et spes, secondo cui i beni della terra devono essere condivisi equamente tra uomini e popoli, nonché il legame “imprescindibile tra finanza ed ecologia integrale”. Da questo deriva una precisa responsabilità morale anche nelle scelte sugli investimenti.

“Money management is never neutral,” but always involves a moral and social responsibility. For this reason, investments must be coherent with the mission of the Church and oriented towards the common good. This is the main theme around which centres the document Linee guida in materia di investimenti etici e sostenibili (Guidelines on Matters of Ethical and Sustainable Financial Investments) published by the Italian Bishops Conference. The text, which was released on Thursday, May 21^st, 2026, but approved by the Consiglio Episcopale Permanente on March 24^th, 2026, is an amended version of the outlines proposed in 2020. The official presentation of the document will take place on June 9^th, in Milan, at the Borsa Italiana (Italian Stock Exchange).

The document contains “a necessary update, considering our fast-changing world”, and is essentially addressed to dioceses, parishes and religious entities that are dealing with risk management and the management of investments and securities portfolios.

The document insists on the principles of “the universal purpose of goods” by referring to the Second Vatican Council – in particular, the constitution Gaudium et spes, which states that the goods of the earth must be equally shared among men and peoples – and the “the crucial link between finance and integral ecology.”  All this entails a clear moral responsibility, including when it comes to investment decisions.
