L'epicentro del terremoto di magnitudo 5,6 di lunedì 21 novembre 2022 è stato vicino alla città di Cianjur (a circa 100 chilometri dalla capitale dell’Indonesia), nella parte occidentale dell’isola di Java e i suoi effetti si sono fatti sentire anche a Jakarta, ma senza incidenti.

Nella città di Cianjur molte case sono state distrutte, i morti finora registrati sono 270, 151 dispersi, più di 1000 feriti e 7.000 sfollati. Fra le vittime molti bambini, perché alle 13.00 erano ancora a scuola.

Le conseguenze immediate: morte, distruzione, disperazione, dolore, pianto e paura per le continue scosse di assestamento, ma allo stesso tempo la speranza nell’aiuto tempestivo del Governo e della Chiesa. The epicentre of the 5.6 magnitude earthquake that occurred on Monday, November 21^st, 2022, was near the city of Cianjur (about 100 kilometres from the capital of Indonesia), in the western side of the island of Java; its effects were felt also in Jakarta, though without major accidents.

In the city of Cianjur, many houses were destroyed. The casualties recorded so far include 270 dead, 151 missing, more than 1000 injured and 7000 displaced. Among the victims are many children, since at 1:00 p.m. they were still in school. 

The immediate consequences are death, destruction, desperation, sorrow, tears, and fear of the continuous aftershocks. At the same time, however, there is hope in the prompt help of the Government and the Church.
