Il nostro confratello Sergio Targa sx, con una esperienza ultraventennale in Bangladesh e ora a Roma per il servizio di Procuratore Generale, ha preparato per la rivista “Missione Oggi” (n. 6 / 2021, novembre-dicembre, pp. 34-37), un dossier dove documenta sin dai primi passi (1952) la presenza dei Missionari Saveriani in Bangladesh nel cammino dell’annuncio e testimonianza del Signore risorto nella vita di questo popolo. Oltre a descrivere in modo circostanziato le varie tappe che hanno caratterizzato e qualificato la presenza Saveriana, l’autore fa con ponderatezza anche alcuni bilanci. Scrive nella sua conclusione: “La missione del futuro perderà forse la sua dimensione istituzionale ma guadagnerà in quella relazionale, di amicizia e solidarietà con le persone. Quest’ultima è, fin d’ora, ciò che mostra il successo della missione saveriana in Bangladesh più e oltre le cattedrali, gli ospedali e le scuole che prima o poi saranno circondate dal deserto. Il futuro rimane nebuloso ma certamente le nuove presenze missionarie dovranno essere, a differenza del passato, piccole e umili, snelle e soprattutto specializzate, lontane dal potere e dai soldi, aperte alla condivisione e all’accoglienza, oltre ogni cittadella e ghetto di sorta…”  (Sergio Targa sx)

Our confrere, Sergio Targa s.x., who boasts more-than-twenty-year experience in Bangladesh and is now in Rome to serve as General Procurator, has prepared for the magazine Missione Oggi (n. 6/ 2021, November-December, pp. 34-37) a dossier documenting the Xaverian presence in Bangladesh since its very beginnings (1952) – a journey of proclamation and witness to the Risen Lord in the life of that people. Apart from giving a thorough description of the successive stages that characterised and qualified the Xaverian presence, the author also makes some assessments full of insight. In concluding his article, he writes: “Mission in the future will probably lose its institutional dimension but will gain a relational dimension, one of friendship and solidarity with people. The last one is what  already proves the success of the Xaverian mission in Bangladesh; it proves it more and beyond cathedrals, hospitals and schools, for, sooner or later, these will be surrounded by the desert. The future remains clouded, but new ways of missionary presence will certainly have to differ from those in the past: they will have to be little, humble, flexible and above all specialised; they will have to stay away from power and money, open to sharing and welcoming, beyond any sort of citadel and ghetto…” (Sergio Targa sx)
