C’è tanto bisogno di ascoltare e di ascoltarci. È il dono più prezioso e generativo che possiamo offrire gli uni agli altri. Noi cristiani dimentichiamo che il servizio dell’ascolto ci è stato affidato da Colui che è l’uditore per eccellenza, alla cui opera siamo chiamati a partecipare. «Noi dobbiamo ascoltare attraverso l’orecchio di Dio, se vogliamo poter parlare attraverso la sua Parola». Così il teologo protestante Dietrich Bonhoeffer ci ricorda che il primo servizio che si deve agli altri nella comunione consiste nel prestare loro ascolto. There is a great need to listen to and to hear one another. It is the most precious and life-giving gift we can offer each other. “Christians have forgotten that the ministry of listening has been committed to them by him who is himself the great listener and whose work they should share.
