Il 20 agosto 1980, Celestina Bottego, la Madre, Fondatrice con Padre Giacomo Spagnolo della Congregazione delle Missionarie di Maria, raggiungeva la casa del Padre. Trovava così compimento in lei il desiderio intensamente coltivato “per tutta la vita” fin dal giorno della sua prima comunione, secondo una sua testimonianza: il desiderio di “vedere Gesù e conoscere quem amavi, quem petivi, quem semper optavi [Colui che ho amato, che ho cercato, che ho sempre desiderato], faccia a faccia, per sempre”.

Nel ricevere la comunione, poche ore prima della morte, allargava le braccia nel suo abituale gesto di accoglienza e pronunciava con voce chiara e viso luminoso “Amen”, sintesi della sua esistenza totalmente donata.

In una lettera  a una sorella scriveva: “Io penso che la vera professione nostra la faremo alla morte. La vita religiosa ci serva di preparazione a questo incontro con lo Sposo, non ti sembra? Come è bello avere questa visione della vita: la vigilia di una grande festa”.

Parole che ci incoraggiano e stimolano anche noi a camminare con impegno generoso verso la meta.      (Fernanda Tettamanzi, mmx)

On August 20^th, 1980, Celestina Bottego, the Mother, the Founder along with Fr. Giacomo Spagnolo of the female Congregation of the Missionaries of Mary, went up to the Father’s house. Thus, a wish that, according to her own testimony, she had intensely cherished “for the entire life” since the day of her first Holy Communion, found realisation: it was the wish “to see Jesus and know quem amavi, quem petivi, quem semper optavi [the One whom I loved, I searched, I always desired] face to face, for ever.”

While receiving Communion, few hours before her death, she spread her arms out in her typical gestures of welcome, and uttered in a clear voice and radiant face “Amen”, the synthesis of her existence which she had completely offered.

In a letter to a sister, she wrote: “I think that we will make our true profession when we die. Religious life serves us as a preparation for this meeting with the Bridegroom, don't you think? How beautiful it is to have this vision of life as the eve of a great celebration.”

These are words that encourage and prompt us to walk earnestly and generously towards the goal. (Fernanda Tettamanzi, m.m.x)
