PARMA - MOTHER HOUSE - THE XAVERIAN COMMUNITY ON THE 4TH FLOOR: “A very hot summer, but one full of visits...”

After spending a very hot summer, yet one full of visits from friends and relatives, September marked the start of a fresh beginning for a new year with our Community planning. Over the summer, we experienced some wonderful moments as well as some painful ones. I’d like to begin with the most joyful moments. The summer saw us take part in important celebrations such as First Professions and a priestly ordination. Furthermore, on the afternoon of Sunday 27 September, the confreres of the Xaverian Community on the fourth floor, together with some guests and the support teams working on the IV Floor, organised a lovely party to celebrate some ‘special’ anniversaries: Fr Dario Maso on the 50th anniversary of his First Profession; Fr Franco Lizzit, on the 75th anniversary of his first Profession (having just returned from his home, where he had chosen to organise and celebrate this important occasion in his home town with all the local authorities, including a brief surprise visit from the Archbishop of Udine to offer his congratulations), Fr Francesco Zampese on the 55th anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood, and also to mark the birthdays of Fr Osvaldo Torresani and Fr Alfonso Oprandi.

The celebration, with sweets and drinks, was also enlivened by songs, accompanied by Fr José Ángel Aguirre Abaituaon his accordion, combined with brief testimonies from the confreres being honoured. On Monday 27th in the afternoon, the fourth floor also witnessed another important moment with the Eucharistic celebration at 5.00 pm together with the confreres from the Mother House: the farewell to our deacon, Gowin Yohanes Nicolindo Putra, who was setting off for his mission in Spain. Having spent a year serving our sick confreres on the fourth floor, we were delighted to mark this occasion to bid him farewell. After the Eucharistic celebration, in fact, the deacon personally greeted all 27 confreres on the fourth floor. It was a very beautiful and fraternal moment.

The sad moment, however, which united us in grief together with the whole Mother House, was the sudden death of Fr Carmelo Sanfelice. As always on such occasions, we accompanied him to the Father’s house with our prayers, together with his family and the many confreres who had come from our various houses, confident that Fr Carmelo will continue to accompany us from above on our journey towards eternal life. From the fourth floor, we wish you all a blessed missionary journey during this month of October, which is so dear to us all. (Daniele Targa sx)
