“Essere discepoli missionari, pronti alla missio ad gentes” è l'invito rivolto dai Vescovi filippini ai fedeli, in vista dell'importante anniversario del paese che segnerà i 500 anni dall'arrivo del dono della fede cristiana nelle Filippine (1521-2021). La Conferenza Episcopale delle Filippine ha indetto un anno speciale.

Papa Francesco, domenica 14 marzo nella Basilica di San Pietro in Vaticano, presiederà la Messa di apertura per celebrare il 500° anniversario di evangelizzazione nelle Filippine: la prima Messa, infatti, nel paese fu celebrata il 31 marzo 1521, sull’isola di Limasawa, a sud di Leyte (Visayas).

L'Italia ospita la più numerosa popolazione di lavoratori filippini d'oltremare dell'Europa occidentale. Secondo le statistiche del governo, ci sono circa 168.000 filippini in Italia.

“Being missionary disciples, ready for the ‘missio ad gentes’ is the invitation addressed by the Bishops of the Philippines to the faithful, in view of the important anniversary of the arrival of the gift of the Christian faith in the Philippines (1521 – 2021).  The Episcopal Conference of the Philippines has called for a special year of celebrations.       

Pope Francis, on Sunday March 14^th – 2021, in St. Peter’s Basilica - Rome, will preside at the Eucharistic Celebration recalling the 500^th Anniversary of evangelization in the Philippines.  The first Mass, in fact, in the country of the Philippines was celebrated on March 31^st – 1521, on the Island of Limasawa, south of Leyte (Visayas).  

Italy is home of the largest population of Philippinos overseas workers in Western Europe.  According to government statistics, there are about 168,000 Philippinos in Italy.
