Sabato 3 dicembre 2022, la comunità Saveriana di San Pietro in Vincoli ha celebrato la festa di San Francesco con la partecipazione del vescovo di Forlì, del vescovo di Cesena e di circa una trentina di sacerdoti delle diocesi di Forlì, Ravenna, Cesena e Faenza. È stata una giornata di sincera fraternità col clero di queste diocesi vicine.

Il nostro confratello + Giorgio Biguzzi, nella sua riflessione omiletica, ha presentato tre immagini della vita di San Francesco Saverio: 1) il crocefisso, 2) il granchio, 3) la vela. 

Il Crocefisso, come ci insegna il Fondatore, è “il gran libro sul quale si sono formati i santi e sul quale noi pure dobbiamo formarci”. Papa Francesco ci invita a tenere “lo sguardo rivolto alla Croce: lì si colloca qualunque autorità nella chiesa, dove Colui che è Signore, si fa servo fino al dono totale di sé”.

Il granchio è un umile crostaceo considerato di poco valore; eppure, è quello che ha portato il Crocifisso al Saverio. Ci ricorda il servizio, umile e continuato.

Quando la vela si spiega al vento dello Spirito si gonfia di vita e ci porta sopra i flutti del mare: “Guai a me se non annuncio il Vangelo”. Non dobbiamo mai ammainare la vela dello Spirito. Papa Francesco ci ricorda nuovamente che “non dobbiamo rinunciare ai grandi sogni. Non accontentiamoci del dovuto. Il Signore non vuole che restringiamo gli orizzonti, non ci vuole parcheggiati ai lati della vita, ma in corsa verso traguardi alti, con gioia e con audacia. La vita è il tempo delle scelte forti, decisive, eterne. Scelte banali portano a una vita banale; scelte grandi rendono grande la vita”. (la comunità Saveriana di San Pietro in Vincoli)

On Saturday, December 3^rd, 2022, the Xaverian community of San Pietro in Vincoli celebrated the Feast of St Francis. The Bishop of Forlì, the Bishop of Cesena and about thirty priests from the Diocese of Forlì, Ravenna, Cesena, and Faenza took part in the celebration – it was a day of genuine fraternity with the clergy from those neighbouring dioceses.

Our confrere, + Giorgio Biguzzi, during his homily presented three images of St Francis Xavier’s life: 1) the crucifix, 2) the crab, 3) the sail.

The Crucifix, as the Founder teaches us, is “the great book on which the Saints were moulded and on which we must also mould ourselves.” Pope Francis invites us to “keep our gaze fixed on the Cross: there is found any authority in the Church, where the One who is the Lord becomes a servant to the point of the total gift of himself.”

The crab is a humble crustacean that is considered of little value; yet it is the one that brought the Crucifix to Xavier. It reminds us of humble and continuous service.

When the Spirit blows into it, the sail gets filled with life and takes us over the waves of the sea. “Woe to me if I do not preach the Gospel.” We must never bind the sail of the Spirit. Once again, Pope Francis urges us: “Let us not give up on great dreams. Let us not settle only for what is necessary. The Lord does not want us to narrow our horizons or to remain parked on the roadside of life. He wants us to race boldly and joyfully towards lofty goals. Life is the time for decisive, eternal choices. Trivial choices lead to a trivial life, big choices make life great.” (The Xaverian community in San Pietro in Vincoli)
