Nella cultura cinese le celebrazioni in genere si anticipano (eccetto i compleanni!). Anche nella nostra parrocchia di Saint Francis Xavier （ 聖方濟沙勿略天主堂）, ridotta nei numeri per l'invecchiamento e le assenze legate alla prudenza rispetto al COVID, la festa del Santo Patrono sarà anticipata a domenica prossima, 28 novembre: inizio dell'anno liturgico, nuovo inizio delle attività, preparazione al Natale...

Quest'anno la festa sarà speciale perché riceveremo la visita dell'Arcivescovo Thomas An-Zu Chung, la prima da quando ha assunto la guida della Diocesi (23 maggio 2020).

Le previsioni del tempo non promettono molto, ma l'attesa si sente: il desiderio di ripartire con entusiasmo, al di là di tutti gli ostacoli. Sì, a differenza degli altri anni, quest'anno l'attesa è maggiore: forse per la visita del Vescovo, forse perché dopo il Covid, molti avvertono il desiderio di una ripartenza, anche se titubante e incerta (lunedì 29 novembre 2021, purtroppo, il governo emanerà un nuovo decreto con nuove disposizioni anti-contagio). La speranza è che termini presto questa seconda fase. Da più di due mesi, infatti, non si registrano nuovi casi di contagio sul territorio nazionale. Un’altra ragione che rende l’attesa più sentita è che molti dei parrocchiani sono stati incaricati di presentare le varie attività della parrocchia. Un altro elemento che ci fa riflettere è il fatto che molte domande che abbiamo chiesto di rivolgere al vescovo per poi trasmetterle a lui, vertono proprio sul tema delle vocazioni. In Chinese culture, celebrations are usually anticipated (with the exception of birthdays!). This is the case also in our parish of St Francis Xavier (聖方濟沙勿略天主堂), whose numbers have shrank due to aging and absences motivated by prudence in the face of COVID. Thus, the feast of the parish’s Patron Saint will be anticipated and celebrated next Sunday, November 28^th: at the beginning of the liturgical year, when new activities and preparation for Christmas begin.

The feast this year will be special because we will be visited by Archbishop Thomas An-Zu Chung. It will be his first visit to the parish since assuming the leadership of the Diocese (May 23^rd 2020).

The weather forecast is not promising; nonetheless, the sense of expectation is palpable: there is a desire to start again with enthusiasm despite the obstacles. Indeed, differently from recent years, now there is greater expectation, perhaps because Bishop Thomas is paying a visit, or perhaps because since the pandemic burst many have been eager to start again, even if uncertainty remains (regrettably, on Monday, November 29^th 2021, the government will issue a decree with new measures against the contagion). We cherish the hope that this second phase will end soon for in more than two months no new case of contagion has been detected in the national territory. Another reason why the expectation is felt much more is that many parishioners have been given the task to illustrate the various activities of the parish. Finally, something else – a source of much thinking for us – is the fact that many of the questions we invited the parishioners to prepare to ask the Bishop, and that we collected in order to hand them over to him, centre around the theme of vocations.
