Il 12 settembre 2024, la presidenza dell’Associazione culturale “Antonio Rosmini” (Trento, Italia), ha invitato il nostro confratello p. Gabriele Ferrari a parlare della figura di Mons. Faustino Tissot, Missionario Saveriano, trentino e testimone della fede.

La conclusione dell’intervento di p. Gabriele raccoglie il seguente pensiero:

…Mi fermo qui e concludo con una domanda certamente affiorata in chi mi ha ascoltato: Mons. Tissot è stato dunque un santo da canonizzare? Mi pare di vedere il sorriso di Monsignore con quel suo tipico gesto di diniego. No, aveva, come tutti, i suoi difetti, ciononostante è stato ed è ancora per me e per noi Saveriani una bella realizzazione del progetto missionario del nostro Fondatore: “Spirito di viva fede che ci faccia veder Dio, cercar Dio e amar Dio in tutto, obbedienza pronta generosa e costante in tutto e a ogni costo, amore intenso per la nostra religiosa famiglia e di carità a tutta prova per i membri che la compongono”.

Questa è stata l’identità di Mons. Tissot, discepolo fedele di san Guido M. Conforti che, come ha detto l’Arcivescovo emerito di Trento, Alessandro M. Gottardi, nel corso delle esequie di Mons. Tissot a Transacqua, è stato soprattutto “un martire della fede”. Questa è la testimonianza che ha lasciato a tutti noi che siamo chiamati ad essere – ciascuno a modo suo – dei missionari là dove ci troviamo a vivere…

On September 12^th, 2024, the president of the Associazione Culturale “Antonio Rosmini” (Trento, Italy), invited our confrere, Fr. Gabriele Ferrari, to give a talk on the personality of Msgr. Faustino Tissot, Xaverian Missionary that came from Trento Province and was a faith witness.

At the end of his talk, Fr. Gabriele made the following remarks:

“… I will stop here and conclude with a question which certainly has crossed the mind of those who listened to my speech: Well, was Msgr. Tissot a saint and should he be canonized? I kind of imagine our Monsignor’s smile and his typical gesture of refusal. No, he had his weaknesses, like all of us, and yet he was – and  for me and for the Xaverians still is – a beautiful realization of the missionary project of our Founder: ‘A spirit of living faith which enables us to see God, seek God, love God in all things, intensifying our desire to spread his kingdom everywhere; a spirit of prompt and ready obedience in everything, no matter how costly, in order to achieve the victories promised by God to those who are obedient; a spirit of intense love for our religious family, that we must look upon as a mother, and a spirit of intense love for all the members of our Society.’  This was Msgr. Tissot’s identity as a faithful disciple of St. Guido M. Conforti. As the Emeritus Bishop of Trento, Alessandro M. Gottardi said during the Requiem Mass of Msgr. Tissot in Transacqua, he was above all “a faith martyr.” This is the witness he left to us all who are called to be – each in his own way – missionaries wherever we are living…”
