Il 2 luglio è, per la Famiglia delle Missionarie di Maria - Saveriane, una data speciale. I nostri fondatori, il Saveriano p. Giacomo Spagnolo e madre Celestina Bottego, scelsero questa data come giorno delle nostre professioni. Padre Giacomo Spagnolo aveva proposto a madre Celestina Bottego di fondare il ramo femminile dei Missionari Saveriani. Lei all’inizio rifiutò. Ma il 24 maggio 1944 Celestina diede la sua disponibilità a dare inizio all’opera. Ogni anno in questa data, festeggiamo il “Sì” della madre. Era un periodo di guerra e, particolarmente il 2 luglio di quell’anno, p. Giacomo Spagnolo e anche madre Celestina Bottego vissero momenti difficili. Quel giorno, nel calendario liturgico di allora, era la festa della Visitazione. Maria va e porta Gesù, che allo stesso tempo la muove e la conduce. Tale mistero apparve ai nostri Fondatori come l’immagine perfetta di quello che le Saveriane erano chiamate a essere: portare Gesù nel mondo e, nello stesso tempo, farsi muovere e condurre da Lui. Anche se ora la festa liturgica della Visitazione è stata anticipata al 31 maggio, il 2 luglio resta per noi la festa della nostra Famiglia, degli anniversari e dei nuovi “sì”. Quest’anno a Parma due nostre sorelle congolesi professeranno il loro “sì” per sempre e tante altre festeggeranno i loro anniversari di professione in varie parti del mondo. July 2^nd is a special date for the family of the Xaverian Sisters Missionaries of Mary. Our founders, the Xaverian Fr. Giacomo Spagnolo and Mother Celestina Bottego, selected this day for our profession of the vows. When Fr. Giacomo Spagnolo first suggested to Mother Celestina Bottego that they found the women’s branch of the Xaverian Missionaries, She refused. However, on May 24^th, 1944, Celestina expressed he availability to give a beginning to our community. We celebrate the Mother’s “yes!” every year on that date. It was wartime and, particularly on July 2^nd of that same year, both Fr. Giacomo Spagnolo and Mother Celestina Bottego went through very difficult moments. At that time, in the liturgical calendar, July 2^nd was the feast of the Visitation. Mary sets out bringing Jesus who, at the same time, is moving and leading her. To our Founders, that mystery seemed to be the perfect image of what the Xaverians were called to be and do: taking Jesus to the world and, at the same time, let Him move and lead them. Although the liturgical feast of the Visitation has now been moved up to May 31^st, July 2^nd remains for us the feast day of our Family, of anniversaries, and of new “yeses.” This year in Parma, two of our Congolese sisters will profess their “yes” forever, and many others will celebrate their profession anniversaries in various parts of the world.
