Ho appena celebrato 60 anni di ministero come presbitero saveriano, con semplicità, gioia e fraternità.

Riconosco che non ho mai fatto una vita di parroco, ma di collaboratore nella pastorale di periferia; ho collaborato nella formazione degli studenti saveriani e in diverse istituzioni accademiche come maestro.

Un ministero che ho sempre coltivato, fino ad oggi, è stato il sacramento della Riconciliazione: non dimentico le confessioni ascoltate in lingua náhuatl, nella zona indigena della Huasteca (Hidalgo, Messico).  Ringrazio Dio per avere celebrato 30.000 Sante Messe, molte di esse in comunità religiose.

Come saveriano, ringrazio il Fondatore, per avermi dato una famiglia di fratelli e uno spirito inquieto per la missione ad gentes. Ringrazio la Virgen de Guadalupe, la Morenita, per avermi fatto incontrare una spiritualità incarnata e inculturata.

Anche se da qualche anno mi trovo in una "noche oscura de las misiones", continuo a chiedere a Nostro Signore Gesù Cristo e a san Paolo luce e grazia per una Chiesa veramente missionaria, e cioè con molti chiamati, formati ed inviati per il primo annuncio e che i saveriani non si rinchiudano in una attività pastorale. In simplicity, joy and fraternity, I have just celebrated 60 years of ministry as Xaverian priest.

I must admit, I have never lived the life of a parish priest but that of a collaborator in the pastoral ministry to the peripheries; I collaborated in the formation of Xaverian students and as a teacher in various academic institutions.

A ministry I have always cultivated, until today, is that of the sacrament of Reconciliation: I will never forget the confessions in Náhuatl language which I listened to in the indigenous area of Huasteca (Hidalgo, Mexico). I thank God for having celebrated 30,000 Holy Masses, many of which in religious communities.

As a Xaverian, I thank the Founder for having given me a family of brothers and a restless spirit for the mission ad gentes. I am grateful to the Virgen de Guadalupe, the Moretina, for leading me to meet an incarnated and inculturated spirituality.

Even if in recent years I am in the midst of “a dark night of the missions”, I continue asking both our Lord Jesus Christ and St Paul the light and grace for a Church that is truly missionary, that is to say, with many who are called, trained and sent to serve the first proclamation of the Gospel, and I also ask that the Xaverians do not lock themselves into carrying out pastoral activities.
