P. Aldo Rottini

Il 12 giugno 2011, a Parma in Casa Madre, alle ore 08.45, è morto il P. Aldo Rottini. Aveva 76 anni compiuti, essendo nato a Paladina (Bergamo) il 21.03.1935.
Nella scelta vocazionale di P. Rottini non si può dimenticare la mamma, Carolina, della quale scriveva il 22.6.72: «mi ha molto aiutato a stare al mio posto» e aggiungeva il 2.6.80: «Ci ha tirati su in mezzo a difficoltà enormi. La guerra. La povertà. Il marito in Eritrea e poi in Germania.. Ripeteva alla fine: "sono entrata povera in questa casa, esco senza nulla, ma contenta della mia famiglia e del timor di Dio che in essa regna"».
Tramite un coetaneo amico entrò tra i Saveriani a Pedrengo il 22.9.47, e iniziò il percorso formativo verso l'ordinazione presbiterale, in strutture e con strumenti e sussidi, possibili i quegli anni del primo dopoguerra. Queste le date 'importanti' del percorso, correttamente segnalate dal P. Rottini: 47-48, Pedrengo, Ia media; 48-52, Zelarino, IIa e IIIa media, IVa e Va ginnasio; 52-53, S. Pietro in Vincoli, Noviziato e il 12.9.1953, Prima Professione; 53-56, Desio Liceo; 56-57, Macomer, prefetto; 57-61, Parma, Teologia e il 16.10.1960, ordinazione presbiterale.
Conclusa la preparazione, P. Rottini venne inviato a Udine come vicerettore e, dopo due anni, come economo e insegnante. Di questo periodo (61-68) forse è il caso di sottolineare quelle che possono essere considerare novità nella vita di P. Rottini: la passione per la musica (ha insegnato canto e messe su due orchestrine tra gli studenti) e l'interesse per lo studio (nel '69 ha conseguito come privatista la Maturità magistrale).
Nel 1969 fu destinato al Congo. P. Rottini accolse con gioia la decisione dei Superiori e espresse ripetutamente la sua riconoscenza al Prefetto delle Missioni. Studiò francese a Parigi (69-70), frequentando contemporaneamente all'Istituto di Musica Liturgica della Cattolica: Direzione di Canto corale; Percussione; Accompagnamento con chitarra; Fisarmonica.
Nel frattempo P. Rottini si andava confermando nel convincimento di essere un recipiente vuoto; che doveva, specialmente dopo il Vaticano II, ritornare alle fonti per essere un autentico sacerdote-missionario. Scriveva il 24.2.70: «Non è certo una ricerca vana di novità, ma un serio riesame … per impostare una pastorale valida». Lo ripeté più volte ai Superiori. E non nascondeva la sua sorpresa per il fatto che la richiesta non fosse pacificamente riconosciuta e immediatamente accolta. Forse non aveva tutti i torti, ma anche i Superiori si attenevano alle delibere capitolari che normalmente non anticipano le situazioni ma intervengono su quelle in atto. Alla fine ebbe il permesso di iscriversi al 'Lumen vitae' di Bruxelles dove conseguì la Licenza in Catechesi e Pastorale.
Dal 1972 al 1987 lavorò in Congo. Dapprima a Kitutu (73-76), impegnato nella pastorale parrocchiale: organizzazione delle comunità locali, collaborazione dei laici, rinnovamento della catechesi, del catecumenato e qualche safari:(«Dal 22 febbraio al 25 marzo – scriveva il 5.4.75 - ho fatto un enorme giro a piedi in visita a tutte le comunità cristiane della missione»). Fu quindi a Kadutu (76-83) incaricato della pastorale giovanile, o meglio, dell'accoglienza dei numerosi studenti che frequentavano le scuole di Bukavu. Fu Direttore della Maison du Partage che con lui divenne un centro di accoglienza, di attività formative, culturali sportive e musicali. Infine fu a Cahi (83-87) dove continuò le sue attività in favore del mondo giovanile. Certo affiorarono anche difficoltà di intesa: P. Rottini era generoso ma anche esigente e con qualche rigidità. Le sue iniziative, specialmente la proiezione di films e la musica, erano diversamente valutate: non mancava chi le riteneva controproducenti o per lo meno prematuri.
Dall'87 al 99 fu impegnato in Italia. Ebbe il coraggio (è il caso di sottolinearlo) di accettare l'incarico di Produttore e poi Direttore del Centro audiovisivi.
Fu ancora in Africa, in Camerun, un paio d'anni: dovette rientrare per motivi di salute.Nel 2003, «perduto e spento», come scrisse al P. Generale, entrava nella via oscura e misteriosa che lo ha condotto all'incontro con il Signore.
Possa contemplare il volto di Dio con il Beato Guido e la Vergine Maria di cui era profondamente devoto.

Fr. Aldo Rottini died on June 12, 2011 at the Mother House, Parma.
Born in Palaina (Bergamo, Italy) on March 21 1935, he was 76 years old.
His mother played an important part in the choice of his vocation and Fr. Aldo wrote about her on June 22 1972: «She helped me to stay in my own place»; and on June 2 1980: «She raised us in the midst of enormous difficulties of war and poverty. Her husband was in Eritrea and then in Germany. At the end of her life, she said: “I came into this house poor and I leave with nothing, but I am happy with my family and the fear of God that reigns therein”».
Thanks to a friend, he joined the Xaverians in Pedrengo on Sept. 22 1947 and began to prepare for the priesthood: he studied at Pedrengo (1947-48); Zelarino (1948-52); Novitiate at S. Pietro in Vincoli (1952-53) and First Profession on Sept. 12, 1953; he continued his studies at Desio (1953-56); and served as prefect at Macomer (1956-57). He studied theology at Parma (1957-61) and was ordained priest on Oct. 16 1960.
Fr. Rottini was sent to Udine as vice-rector and, two years later, he was also treasurer and teacher. During this period (1961-68) he discovered a passion for music and an interest in study.
He was assigned to the Congo in 1969. Fr. Rottini joyfully welcomed the decision of the Superiors and repeatedly expressed his gratitude to the Prefect of the Missions. He studied French in Paris (1959-70), attending at the same time the Institute of Music at the Università Cattolica, where he studied the Direction of Choirs, Percussion, Guitar Accompaniment and the Accordion.
In the meantime Fr. Rottini was becoming convinced that he was an empty vessel and that it was necessary, especially after Vatican II, to return to the sources in order to be an authentic priest-missionary. He wrote in Feb. 24 1970: «It is certainly not a vain search for novelty, but a serious examination… to organize a valid pastoral ministry ». He repeated this several times to the Superiors and did not conceal his surprise when his request was not immediately granted. Perhaps he was not entirely wrong, but the Superiors were also adhering to chapter deliberations that do not normally anticipate a situation, but intervene in processes that are in progress. He was finally given permission to enroll at the Lumen Vitae at Brussels, where he obtained the Masters in Catechesis and Pastoral Ministry.
From 1972 until 1987, he worked in Congo. First at Kitutu (1973-76) in the parish pastoral ministry: organization of the local communities, collaboration of the laity, renewal of the catechesis, catechumenate and some safaris. On April 5 1975, he wrote: «From Feb. 22 until March 25, I made a long trip on foot to visit all the Christian communities of the mission». He then worked at Kadutu (1976-83), where he was in charge of pastoral work among the youth, welcoming the many students who attended the schools of Bukavu. He served as Director of the Maison du Partage which he made into a Finally, he worked at Cahi (1983-87) where he continued his activities on behalf of young people. There were also some difficulties and misunderstandings: Fr. Rottini was generous, but also demanding and rigid in some things. His initiatives, especially the project of films and music, were interpreted in different ways: some believed they were counter-productive or premature.
Fr. Aldo worked in Italy from 1987 until 1999. He had the courage to accept the post as Director and then Producer of the Audio-Visual Center. He then went back to Africa, to Cameroon, for a couple of years but he had to return to Italy on health grounds. In 2003, “lost and lifeless” as he wrote to the Superior General, he entered into the mysterious and dark tunnel that led to his encounter with the Lord.
