After several months without exchanging emails with Father General, I resolved to write him on the eve of the Founder's Day, just to wish him a happy feast day and good health. He replied me from Rome, on the very Founder's Day, on November 5th, 2016: . In this message appears what he was and how he lived with us: love for the Congregation, love for the mission, attention to and respect for other religions and cultures; and concerns for the confreres.
"Very dear Fr. Valentin, Happy Founder’s Feast. I ask S. Guido M. Conforti to bless and guide and sustain your missionary and apostolic work, to give you joy and health. Thank you very much for your message, which brought to me the flavour of fraternity. I know that you are in Aek Nabara and already you speak the local language. Be devoted to your commitment and, at the same time, be curious about the local culture and religion. Indonesia is a source of hope for our Congregation, because the Lord gives us many vocations from this country. Let us continue witnessing the joy of being Xaverians. Keeping you in my prayers". Fr. Today, Fr. Menegazzo has returned to the Father's House to meet with the Founder. I didn't know that his reply would be the last email that I would receive from him: his “testament” for me; at least, I see it that way. And I believe that his contact with me shall live on, because he promised to keep me in his prayers.
