THE MISSION TODAY (cf. Instrumentum Laboris pgs. 18-21)
Paragraph 19 of the guidelines of the Evangelizing Action of the Church of Brazil 2011- 2015 declares: “We are witnessing changes that affect all the aspects of life; indeed, we can say that we are no longer living in an era of changes, but a change of epoch”. What used to be certainty and a sure reference point for our life has turned out to be insufficient and inadequate as a response to the new needs and situations; this ‘leaves people stressed or disoriented’. Again, in paragraph 27: “we are experiencing a transformation that concerns not just some aspects of reality. The transformations affect the necessary criteria for understanding life and everything related to human existence, even our very way of seeing God. The name of Jesus Christ is even used to express attitudes that are opposed to the Kingdom of God, leaving those who truly want to live missionary discipleship in a state of confusion”.
