Pietro Uccelli early experienced a situation of misery and suffering, which made him particularly sensitive to the poorest. Ordained a priest, he matured an ever growing desire to bring the Gospel where he was not yet known. When he learned of the martyrdom of the saints Francesco Fogolla and companions (July 1900), he decided to leave as a missionary. He entered the Institute of Xaverian Missionaries, welcomed by the founder Saint Guido Maria Conforti. Back to Italy, Fr. Pietro guided the future missionaries, but also the faithful of every state of life, class and age.

Equipped with a simple and clear character, he attributed the healings that people claimed to obtain through him to the intercession of Saint Joseph, to whom he was very devoted. Pope Francis authorized the promulgation of the decree by which Father Uccelli was declared Venerable.
