This great monotheistic religion was founded in Arabia in the 7th century. by Mohammed and, collectively, the social, cultural and political system that assumes its principles. Its foundation is the Koran, a text revealed in Arabic to Muhammad, through the Archangel Gabriel, considered "the word of God" and as such perfect and immutable.

It is a universal religion, open to all humanity: to belong to the community of believers (umma) the follower is sufficient to formulate in the presence of witnesses and with sincerity of intent the profession of faith (shahāda) «there is no god but Allāh and Mohammed is his envoy».
