P. SILVIO TURAZZI SX: Le radici, la gente, la missione

23 Ottobre 2026

Disponibile in

P. SILVIO TURAZZI SX: The roots, the people, the mission

On Saturday 24 October there will be a study day on Fr. Silvio Turazzi, a charismatic missionary figure, known and loved in Ferrara, where he left; in Parma, the city where he became involved with the Institute of the Xaverian Missionaries and in Goma, Congo, the city where Fr. Silvio worked for almost thirty years as a witness of peace and fraternity. It is the second Conference on Fr. Silvio and will have a mostly historical slant. The orators will report their research on the cultural and spiritual roots of Fr. Silvio, against the backdrop of various situations: the choice to live among the shacks of Rome, his pastoral and social commitment despite paraplegia following a road accident, his mission to Africa, then still on the front lines, upon his return to Italy, in Vicomero (PR), to create a bridge between associations, groups, movements, missionary institutes and Africa. The roots, the people, the mission: Journalist Paola Springhetti will report on her work for a biography of the Ferrarese missionary “street priest and mystic”. Professor Augusto D'Angelo will outline the spiritual and civil climate in Rome in the ’60s and ’70s, an environment that will see Fr. Silvio engaged among the people of the Felice Aqueduct, on the outskirts of Rome. Monsignor Ivano Casaroli will recount Fr. Silvio with his city and the local Church. Professor Miriam Turrini will offer keys to understanding the characteristics of the mission experienced by Fr. Silvio, framing them in the history of the missions and in the new perspectives of the Second Vatican Council.
