Roma, 20 novembre: Papa Francesco chiude la porta santa del giubileo speciale della misericordia con la consegna di «guardare alla missione ad gentes come a una grande, immensa opera di misericordia sia spirituale che materiale» (Papa Francesco).

“Carissimi Confratelli, una breve informazione circa la salute del nostro P. Generale. Già da due settimane, accertata la diagnosi, ha iniziato la terapia specifica. Però, su indicazione dei medici, vedendo che aveva bisogno di un linfodrenaggio per accumulazione di liquidi nelle gambe, ieri pomeriggio è stato di nuovo ricoverato all’ospedale Santo Spirito in Sassia (Roma): niente di allarmante, solo che questa terapia si è ritenuto più opportuno farla in modalità di ricovero. Fisicamente sta meglio. Lui ringrazia tutti per il ricordo e la preghiera e manda i saluti. Si scusa per il fatto di non poter seguire la corrispondenza. BRASILE NORD
Belém, 5 novembre: all’insegna della “famiglia” e dell’amicizia è stata celebrata alla “Domus” la festa di San Guido M. Conforti. Ci hanno fatto il regalo della loro presenza i confratelli che operano in città, le sorelle saveriane, i rappresentanti dei gruppi laicali saveriani e un gruppo di amici di lunga data. Il Superiore Regionale, p. Matteo Antonello, nella celebrazione Eucaristica ha sottolineato come la passione missionaria di San Guido sia attuale ed urgente nella Chiesa dei nostri giorni. Un momento di convivialità fraterna ha concluso l’incontro festoso.
FILIPPINE
La festa del nostro Fondatore è stata celebrata nelle nostre due parrocchie insieme a nostri collaboratori laici, e come famiglia saveriana con tutti i nostri confratelli. È stata una bella celebrazione anche per i nostri due giovani confratelli Elvis Ndihokubwayo e Edgar Nava Pérez che hanno fatto la loro professione perpetua e per gli altri nove che hanno rinnovato i voti.
DEFUNTI
Il mattino di domenica 13 novembre, a Piracicaba (SP, Brasile), è morto per insufficienza respiratoria P. Humberto Vega Aviña. Aveva 46 anni compiuti.
Il funerale – presieduto dal Vescovo diocesano e presenti la mamma, il fratello gemello e una sorella – è stato celebrato nella chiesa del Cuore Immacolato di Maria il 16 novembre. È stato sepolto nel cimitero ‘Parque da Ressureição.

Fr. Mario Mula, the Vicar General, writes: “Dear brothers, a few lines to update you on the health of our Superior General. In the last two weeks he has been receiving the medical treatment that was prescribed after his illness was diagnosed. Yesterday he was admitted once again to the Santo Spirito in Sassia (Roma) for a lymphatic drainage to remove the liquids that were accumulating in his legs. There is no cause for alarm, the doctors decided it would be best to do the procedure with him in hospital. Physically he is better and thanks everyone for their prayers and support. He apologizes for being unable to attend to his correspondence. Let us continue to remember him in jour personal and community prayers”.
NORTH BRAZIL
Belém Domus, 5 Nov: the feast of St. Guido M. Conforti was celebrated in an atmosphere of “family” and friendship. We were joined by the confreres who work in the city, the Xaverian Sisters, representatives of the Xaverian Lay groups and some long-standing friends. During the Eucharist, the Regional Superior, Fr. Matteo Antonello, emphasized how the missionary zeal of St. Guido is still relevant and urgent in the Church today. The meeting ended with a moment of fraternal conviviality.
PHILIPPINES
The Founder’s feast was celebrated in our two parishes with our lay collaborators, and as a Xaverian family with all our confreres. It was a beautiful celebration also for our two young confreres, Elvis Ndihokubwayo and Edgar Nava Pérez, who made their Final Profession, and for the other nine who renewed their vows.
IN MEMORIAM
13 Nov: Fr. Humberto Vega Aviña died of respiratory failure in Piracicaba (SP, Brazil). He was 46 years old.
His funeral, which was presided over by the diocesan bishop and attended by his mother, twin brother a sister, was celebrated in the church of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, on 16 November, followed by burial in the ‘Parque da Ressureição’ cemetery.
