Operate sempre con quelle intenzioni con le quali operava Gesù Cristo stesso, che  di  continuo  dovete  tenere  sotto  degli  occhi  essendo  egli  il  modello  di  tutti  i predestinati alla gloria, ma in particolar maniera dei banditori del Vangelo, che, come debbono annunciarne la celeste dottrina, tanto più poi debbono incarnarne i sublimi esempi di santità a noi lasciati in preziosa eredità. Ed affinché Gesù Cristo possa esser sempre in cima ai vostri pensieri ed ai vostri affetti, vi raccomando pure di coltivare lo spirito interno che deve dare forza, vigore, alimento alla vostra vita esteriore, vita di continua attività e di continuo sacrifizio, e nella quale non potrete a lungo perseverare senza inciampare, se non avrete i conforti che provengono dallo spirito interiore unito a Dio fonte inesauribile d'ogni verace gaudio. Always work with the same intentions that moved Jesus Christ, whom you should keep looking at as the model of all those predestined to glory, but especially of the Gospel’s heralds. They must proclaim his celestial doctrine, and embody his sublime examples of holiness which he bequeathed to us as a precious legacy. In order for Jesus Christ to be always at the centre of your thoughts and affections, I recommend that you also nurture your inner life, which must give strength, vigour, and nourishment to your external life – a life of continuous activity and continuous sacrifice. One cannot persevere long in such a life without stumbling unless he has the comforts that come from an inner spirit united with God, the inexhaustible source of all true joy.
