EXCERPTS FROM POPE FRANCIS’ ADDRESS AT THE MEETING OF THE GENERAL SUPERIORS (USG), NOVEMBER 26TH, 2022

Creating peace is, therefore, an artisan work, that must be carried out with passion, patience, experience and determination, because it is a process that lasts over time. Peace is not an industrial product but a work of craftsmanship. It is not realized in a mechanical fashion but needs the wise intervention of man. It does not come out from mass production, by means of technological development, rather it requires human development. This is why peace processes cannot be delegated to diplomats or the military: peace is a responsibility of all and each one.

We, the consecrated ones, will be blessed if we are committed in sowing seeds of peace through our daily actions, our attitudes and signs of service, fraternity, dialogue, mercy, and if in prayer we unceasingly invoke from Jesus Christ, “our peace”, the gift of peace.

This reflection on peace leads me to consider another aspect that is typical of consecrated life: synodality, the process which we are all called to undertake as members of God’s holy people. Moreover, as consecrated ones, we are particularly supposed to participate in this process, for consecrated life is by its very nature synodal.
