Cinquant'anni fa (02 settembre 1973) si concludeva il primo noviziato della Regione Saveriana del Messico: degli undici che iniziarono l’anno, otto emisero la prima professione religiosa e missionaria e cinque ricevettero gli Ordini sacri.

Da trincee diverse, tre di noi continuano a condividere, con l'intera Famiglia Carismatica Saveriana, il mandato del Signore Gesù ad gentes, ad extra ed ad vitam: José de Jesús Romero Vera sx, Gerardo Custodio López sx e Juan Antonio Flores Osuna sx.

Nella mia storia vocazionale, tutto è iniziato da un desiderio intenso, chiaro e irrefrenabile di conoscere sempre di più e meglio nostro Signore Gesù Cristo. Durante l’anno di noviziato, ho scoperto con grande contentezza che la fonte più ricca e dinamica che ha alimentato e maturato la santità e la missionarietà di san Guido Maria Conforti, è stato proprio Gesù Cristo stesso, inviato dal Padre. E questo mi ha riempito di molta serenità, incoraggiamento e gioia.

Il desiderio di conoscere sempre di più Gesù Cristo è rimasto in me come una “curiositas”, mai del tutto soddisfatta, e che mantiene viva questa passione durante tutta la mia vita e in tutti i servizi missionari che mi sono stati affidati. Con umile riconoscimento, ringrazio Dio perché questa aspirazione è rimasta accesa anche in mezzo a grandi sfide, perdite, fragilità e incoerenze... e qualche piccolo risultato... frutto della Sua Grazia in me.

Come sono passati in fretta questi anni! Ma il tempo non è riuscito a far passare quello che c’è nel nostro cuore: “Signore, insegnaci a contare i nostri giorni e giungeremo alla sapienza del cuore”. (Salmo 89). (Juan Antonio Flores Osuna sx)

Fifty years ago (September 2^nd, 1973), the first novitiate of the Xaverian Mexican Region was completed. The year had begun with eleven novices, of whom eight made the first religious and missionary profession, and later five reached the ordination to the priesthood.

From different ‘battlefields’, three of us continue sharing with the entire Xaverian Charismatic Family the Lord Jesus’ mandate to proclaim the Gospel ad gentes, ad extra and ad vitam: José de Jesús Romero Vera s.x., Gerardo Custodio López s.x. and Juan Antonio Flores Osuna s.x.

In my vocational history, everything began from an intense, clear and irresistible desire to know our Lord Jesus Christ better and better. During my year of novitiate, I was happy to discover that the richer and more dynamic source that nourished and brought to maturity the holiness and missionary spirit of St Guido Maria Conforti was none other than Jesus Christ himself, the One sent by the Father. This fact filled me with much serenity, encouragement and joy.

The desire to know Jesus Christ better has always remained with me, like a curiositas which is never completely satisfied; it is a passion that remained alive throughout my life and all the missionary services I was entrusted with. I humbly thank God because such aspiration has remained alive even among great challenges, losses, fragilities and inconsistencies… and few little achievements… fruits of His Grace in me.

How quickly these years have gone by! Nonetheless, time could not drop what is in our heart: “Lord, teach us to count up the days that are ours, and we shall come to the heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 89) (Juan Antonio Flores Osuna s.x.)
