Questa mattina, verso le ore 3,45 locali, all’ospedale di Coatbridge, è morto P. Tom Welsh, per collasso cardiocircolatorio. Aveva compiuto 67 anni, essendo nato il 16.01.1950.
Entrato in Istituto a Glasgow, nel 1971, nella comunità del noviziato, emette la Prima Professione il giorno 01.09.1972, e la Professione Perpetua, sempre a Glasgow il 03.09.1976.
Ordinato presbitero il 25.06.1977, svolge dapprima il suo servizio come formatore e promotore vocazionale, a Glasgow, fino all’ottobre del 1980.
A fine ottobre del 1980 parte per la Sierra Leone, dove lavora a Kabala come Vice parroco, fino ad agosto del 1984. Da questa data lo troviamo a Chicago per studi alla Loyola University, dove ottiene un Master of Art in Psicoterapia e successivamente una laurea nella stessa specializzazione.
Dal 1991 in poi lo troviamo nel Regno Unito dove svolge vari ruoli e servizi. Animatore missionario a Preston, a Coatbridge, e a Glasgow; Superiore Regionale dal 1998 al 2006; Parroco della parrocchia di St. Alphonsus a Glasgow dal 2001 al 2009.
Dal dicembre 2010 era il Direttore del Conforti Institute.

In Memoriam. FR. THOMAS WELSH
Fr. Tom Welsh died of a cardiovascular collapse in the early hours of this morning, at 3.45 a.m. local time, in hospital in Coatbridge, Scotland. Born on 16 January 1950, he was 67 years old.
He joined the Institute in Glasgow for Novitiate in 1971 and made his First profession on 1 September 1972. He made his Final Profession in Glasgow on 3 September 1976.
He was ordained priest on 25 June 1977 and served as formator and vocation promoter until October 1980.
At the end of October 1980 he left for Sierra Leone, where he worked in Kabala as assistant priest until August 1984. He then moved to Chicago to study at the Loyola University, where he obtained a Master of Art in Psychotherapy and, subsequently, a degree in the same specialization.
From 1991 onwards he worked in the United Kingdom, where he carried out various roles and tasks: Missionary Animator in Preston, Coatbridge and Glasgow; Regional Superior (1998-2006), Parish priest of St. Alphonsus, Glasgow (201-2009).
He was Director of the Conforti Institute from December 2010 until his death.
