Un piccolo gruppo di confratelli che vive a Roma - insieme a p. Polash Henry Gomes sx, appena sbarcato dall’aereo per partecipare al prossimo Convegno sul Volto Umano del Saveriano - giovedì 11 giugno 2026, memoria dell’apostolo San Barnaba, si è recato alla Basilica di San Paolo Fuori le Mura per celebrare il 124° anniversario della consacrazione episcopale di San Guido Maria Conforti. Lo stesso giorno il Fondatore emise la professione religiosa nella stessa Basilica (11 giugno 1902). E lo stesso giorno, il nuovo arcivescovo di Ravenna, Mons. Guido Maria Conforti, inviò da Roma la sua prima Lettera Pastorale “al dilettissimo popolo di Ravenna”, al clero (in latino) e al popolo (in italiano) dell’archidiocesi.

Per l’occasione i monaci Benedettini hanno voluto assegnare al gruppo la cappella del Battistero della Basilica, adiacente alla vecchia sacrestia ove verosimilmente il Fondatore pronunciò la formula della Professione religiosa.  Durante la celebrazione eucaristica, abbiamo ricordato con affetto e riconoscenza tutti i nostri confratelli di ogni continente e abbiamo rinnovato la consacrazione missionaria pronunciando insieme le parole della Formula di Professione indicata dalle Costituzioni n.67.  Celebrare l’Eucaristia attorno al fonte battesimale non poteva non farci ricordare con commozione l’amato testo della Lettera Testamento 2: “E l’Angelico Dottore scrive che la professione dei voti religiosi equivale in certo qual modo ad un secondo battesimo, perché inizio di una nuova vita”. 

A small group of confreres living in Rome - together with Fr Polash Henry Gomes sx, who had just stepped off the plane to participate in the upcoming Conference on the Human Traits of the Xaverian - on Thursday  June 11, 2026, the memorial of St Barnabas the Apostle, went to the Basilica of St Paul Outside the Walls to celebrate the 124th anniversary of the episcopal consecration of Saint Guido Maria Conforti. On the same day, the Founder made his religious profession in the same Basilica (June 11, 1902). And on the same day, the new Archbishop of Ravenna, Guido Maria Conforti, sent his first Pastoral Letter from Rome “to the most beloved people of Ravenna”: to the clergy (in Latin language) and to the people (in Italian language) of the archdiocese.

For the occasion, the Benedictine monks wished to assign to the group the chapel of the Basilica’s Baptistery, adjacent to the old sacristy where the Founder likely recited the formula of religious profession.  During the Eucharistic celebration, we remembered with affection and gratitude all our confreres from every continent and renewed our missionary consecration by pronouncing together the words of the Formula of Profession set out in the Constitutions, no. 67.  Celebrating the Eucharist around the baptismal font could not fail to remind us, with deep emotion, of the beloved text from the Testament Letter 2: “And the Angelic Doctor writes that the profession of religious vows is, in a certain sense, equivalent to a second baptism, because it marks the beginning of a new life”.
