Un accorato appello affinché si ponga fine alle violenze, alle persecuzioni e ai conflitti armati in molte aree del mondo è stato lanciato dal cardinale Fridolin Ambongo Besungu, arcivescovo di Kinshasa e presidente del Simposio delle conferenze episcopali di Africa e Madagascar (Secam), in occasione dei lavori della XX assemblea plenaria, dal tema: “Cristo, Fonte di Speranza, Riconciliazione e Pace”, dal 31 luglio al 4 agosto 2025,  a Kigali, in Rwanda. Nella cerimonia di apertura era presente il primo ministro ruandese, Justin Nsengiyumva, in rappresentanza del presidente della Repubblica, Paul Kagame.

Ai lavori della plenaria, che si sono conclusi lunedì 4 agosto, hanno partecipato  oltre 200 delegati tra cui 13 cardinali, 85 vescovi, 72 sacerdoti e decine di religiosi e fedeli laici, uomini e donne.

“...Il tema di questa assemblea tocca profondamente l’anima del nostro continente. In un mondo lacerato da guerre, povertà, sfollamenti forzati e crisi ecologiche, volgiamo lo sguardo a Cristo, che è la fonte viva di guarigione e rinnovamento. È Lui che accompagna l’Africa nelle sue ferite, che riconcilia i cuori divisi e che offre speranza dove la speranza è minacciata. Come discepoli, siamo chiamati a diventare artigiani di pace, profeti di speranza e strumenti di riconciliazione. Questa non è solo una convinzione teologica, ma un’urgenza pastorale. La Chiesa in Africa deve essere segno e sacramento di unità, giustizia e pace duratura...” (Card. Fridolin Ambongo Besungu)

Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo Besungu, Archbishop of Kinshasa and President of the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar, during the 20^th plenary assembly of the Symposium, made an emotional appeal for the end of violence, persecutions and armed conflicts in many areas of the world. The plenary assembly, whose theme was Christ, Source of Hope, Reconciliation and Peace, was held in Kigali, Rwanda (July 31^st to August 04^th, 2025). The opening ceremony was attended by the Rwandese prime minister, Justin Nsengiyumva, representing the President of the Republic, Paul Kagame.

More than 200 delegates, including 13 cardinals, 85 bishops, 72 priests, and dozens of religious and lay Christians took part in the Plenary that ended on August 4^th. 

“The theme of this assembly touches deeply the soul of our continent. In a world torn apart by wars, poverty, forced displacement, and ecological crises, we turn our gaze to Christ, who is the living source of healing and renewal. It is He who accompanies Africa in its wounds, who reconciles divided hearts, and who offers hope where hope is threatened. As disciples, we are called to become artisans of peace, prophets of hope, and instruments of reconciliation. This is not only a theological conviction, but a pastoral urgency.
