La celebrazione di preghiera di Martedì 23 nel giardino della casa Madre è stata per tutti i partecipanti un momento molto commovente e insieme importante. Infatti, verso le ore 9.30, nel giardino retrostante alla Casa Madre, abbiamo accolto con mestizia il feretro del signor Paul Subhas, cittadino bengalese, seguito dalla moglie e dai due figli oltre che da molti colleghi di lavoro bengalesi, da alcuni laici sx di Parma e diversi nostri ex studenti bengalesi residenti in città. Paul Subhas lavorava in una cooperativa di Parma da ben 13 anni con contratto a tempo indeterminato. Il 27 dicembre scorso era riuscito finalmente a far sì che la moglie Kanika con la figlia Diya e il figlio Dipanno potessero ricongiungersi regolarmente con lui. Solo due mesi per gustare di nuovo la gioia dello stare con i propri cari; poi, dopo un periodo in ospedale, Subhas muore di Covid il 17 marzo a soli 45 anni.

Essendo di religione hindu la famiglia chiede che il corpo di Subhas sia cremato. La cosa si presenta problematica perché le autorità italiane richiedono una sorta di nulla osta alle autorità del Bangladesh in Italia. La cosa, pur difficile, si rende possibile grazie alla determinazione e all’impegno di p. Sergio Targa e Nicoletta Del Franco.

Martedì abbiamo pregato e pianto con la famiglia di Subhas, hindu, cristiani e musulmani. Alcuni suoi colleghi hanno ricordato Subhas con brevi parole per poi continuare con testi e preghiere delle diverse fedi.

Scrive un’amica di Parma presente martedì: “La piccola celebrazione che abbiamo fatto martedì scorso ha voluto essere un ultimo saluto da parte della famiglia e dei colleghi di lavoro. C’è grande solidarietà da parte dei colleghi di lavoro e della comunità bengalese che ha effettuato una raccolta di soldi per le spese immediate della famiglia. Moglie e figli desiderano rimanere in Italia. Era il desiderio di Subash che i figli potessero studiare… (Filippo Rondi sx)

The celebration of prayer on Tuesday, March 23^rd-2021, in the garden of the Mother House, was a very moving and important moment for all the participants. In fact, around 9:30 am, in the garden behind the Mother House, with sadness we welcomed the coffin of Mr. Paul Subhas, a Bengali citizen. His wife and two children as well as many Bengali work colleagues were present, together with some lay people from Parma and several of our former Bengali students residing in the city.  Mr. Paul Subhas had been working in a cooperative in Parma for 13 years on an ‘indefinite contract’. On December 27^th, he finally managed to ensure that his wife Kanika and daughter Diya and son Dipanno could be reunited regularly with him. Only two months to enjoy again the joy of being with his loved ones. Then, after some time in the hospital, Mr. Subhas died of Covid-19 on March 17^th – 2021, at the age of 45. Being Hindu, the family had asked that Subhas’ body be cremated. This is problematic, because the Italian authorities have to ask a kind of ‘nihil obstat’ to the Bangladeshi authorities present in Italy. This, although difficult, was made possible due to the determination and commitment of Fr. Sergio Targa and Nicoletta Del Franco.

We prayed and wept with the family of Mr. Subhas; Hindus, Christians and Muslims. Some of his colleagues recalled Mr. Subhas with some words, and then continued to pray with texts and prayers from the different faiths. A friend from Parma wrote on Tuesday: “The small celebration we had last Tuesday was intended to be a final greeting from the family and work colleagues. There was a great solidarity from work colleagues and the Bengali community who have contributed money for the immediate expenses of the family. Now, the wife and children wish to stay in Italy.
