Il nostro confratello, p. Andrea Facchetti, parroco di São Pedro Claver, Charre, Diocesi di TETE, Mozambico, giovedì 24 aprile 2025, ha tenuto la “Preghiera della Chiesa cattolica in occasione della visita al Distretto di Mutarara, provincia di TETE, del Presidente della Repubblica del Mozambico Daniel Francisco Chapo”, trasmessa in diretta dalla Televisione mozambicana.

P. Andrea Facchetti esordisce con queste parole la preghiera dinanzi al popolo di Dio:

“Nel Primo Libro dei Re (1 Re 3, 5-13), il Signore Dio appare in sogno al giovane re Salomone e gli chiede cosa desidera per governare bene il suo Paese. Il giovane re, che è all'inizio del suo regno, chiede semplicemente un cuore saggio per discernere tra il bene e il male. La risposta è gradita al Signore Dio, perché non ha chiesto una lunga vita, né ricchezza, né la morte dei nemici, ma un cuore saggio per discernere tra il bene e il male.

Chiedo a Dio che vi inondi, signor Presidente, di questa benedizione: la saggezza per discernere tra il bene e il male. Lo chiedo pensando alla gente del Distretto di Mutarara.

Qui, a poche centinaia di metri, il "Ponte Dona Ana" unisce le due sponde del fiume  Zambesi. Ogni giorno centinaia di persone vi passano a piedi, in bicicletta o in moto, schivando le buche e facendo attenzione a non cadere nel fiume. Il 18 febbraio scorso, un bambino di tre anni è annegato cadendo in una di queste buche. Paradossalmente (e contemporaneamente) passa il treno del carbone, una risorsa che Dio ha donato alla gente di questa provincia, ma che, dopo anni, sembra non portare loro benefici.

Non sappiamo distinguere tra il bene e il male, Signor Presidente…”

On Thursday, April 24^th, 2025, our confrere, Fr. Andrea Facchetti, pastor of St Peter Claver Parish in Charre, Diocese of Tete, Mozambique, led the “Prayer of the Catholic Church on the occasion of the visit to the District of Mutarara, Tete Province by the President of the Republic of Mozambique, Daniel Francisco Chapo”, which was broadcast live by the Mozambican Television. 

Fr. Andrea Facchetti begins the prayer in front of the people of God with these words:

“In the First Book of Kings (1 Kings 3:5-13), the Lord God appears in a dream to young King Solomon and asks him what he wants to govern his country well. The young king, who is at the beginning of his reign, simply asks for a wise heart to discern between good and evil. The answer is pleasing to the Lord God, for he did not ask for long life, wealth, or the death of enemies, but for a wise heart to discern between good and evil.

I ask God to shower you, Mr. President, with this blessing: the wisdom to discern between good and evil. I ask this with the people of Mutarara District in mind.

A few hundred meters away from here, the “Dona Ana Bridge” joins the two banks of the Zambezi River. Every day hundreds of people cross it on foot, by bicycle or motorcycle, dodging potholes and being careful not to fall into the river. Last February 18^th, a three-year-old boy drowned when he fell into one of these potholes. Paradoxically (and at the same time) the train carrying coal passes by. Coal is a resource that God has given to the people of this province, but which, after years, seems not to benefit them.

Mr President, we do not know how to discern good from evil…”
