Il nuovo ambasciatore di Taiwan presso la Santa Sede, S.E. Signor Anthony C. Y. Ho, ha assunto il suo incarico (3 luglio 2025) di “rappresentante diplomatico del governo della Repubblica di Cina” (Republic of China, R.O.C., Taiwan) in Vaticano:

“…ho avuto l’onore di presentare a papa Leone XIV le credenziali la mattina del 3 luglio 2025. È stata una conversazione calda e piacevole. Innanzitutto, ho trasmesso i più calorosi saluti e i migliori auguri da parte del presidente della R.O.C. (Taiwan), Lai Ching-te. Ho poi riportato anche i saluti di molti alti funzionari del suo governo. Come cattolico, ho avuto anche la gioia di trasmettere i saluti e le preghiere della comunità cattolica di Taiwan. Ho riferito al Papa che Taiwan è una democrazia vivace, che offre una base solida per la libertà religiosa e il dialogo interreligioso…”

Come missionari, aggiungiamo un riconoscente grazie al predecessore, S.E. Sig. Matthew Shieh-Ming LEE, per i suoi 10 anni di Ambasciatore Straordinario e Plenipotenziario presso la Santa Sede (2016-2025). La sua missione vissuta anche nella ricerca filiale del dono della fede, la sua costante vicinanza e il suo aiuto incondizionato nelle questioni migratorie (visti, permessi…) sono stati un regalo prezioso per noi e per molti altri missionari. 

The new Ambassador of Taiwan to the Holy See, His Excellency Mr. Anthony C. Y. Ho, has taken up (July 3^rd, 2025) the post of “diplomatic representative for the government of the Republic of China” (R.O.C., Taiwan) to the Vatican:

“I had the honour of presenting Pope Leo XIV with credentials on the morning of July 3^rd, 2025. It was a friendly and pleasant conversation. First, I conveyed the warmest greetings and best wishes from the president of the R.O.C. (Taiwan), Lai Ching-te. Then I reported the greetings from many senior officials of his government. As a Catholic, I also had the joy of conveying the greetings and prayers of the Catholic community in Taiwan. I said to the Pope that Taiwan is a vibrant democracy that provides a solid foundation for religious freedom and interfaith dialogue.”

We missionaries take this chance to express our gratitude to His Excellency Mr. Matthew Shieh-Ming LEE who leaves after 10 years spent as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Holy See (2016-2025). His service, which he carried out also as a sincere journey of faith search, and his constant closeness and generous help in dealing with migration issues (visa, permits…) have been a precious gift for us and many other missionaries to Taiwan.
