Nell’Udienza generale di mercoledì 12 giugno 2024, Papa Francesco, proseguendo le riflessioni sullo Spirito Santo, ha invitato a leggere ogni giorno il Vangelo. Toccando, poi, l’aspetto dell’omelia, ha detto:
“…E l’omelia, quel commento che fa il celebrante, deve aiutare a trasferire la Parola di Dio dal libro alla vita. Ma l’omelia per questo dev’essere breve: un’immagine, un pensiero e un sentimento. L’omelia non deve andare oltre gli otto minuti, perché dopo con il tempo si perde l’attenzione e la gente si addormenta, e ha ragione. Un’omelia deve essere così. E questo voglio dire ai preti, che parlano tanto, tante volte, e non si capisce di che cosa parlano. Omelia breve: un pensiero, un sentimento e uno spunto per l’azione, per come fare. Non più di otto minuti. Perché l’omelia deve aiutare a trasferire la Parola di Dio dal libro alla vita. E tra le tante parole di Dio che ogni giorno ascoltiamo nella Messa o nella Liturgia delle ore, ce n’è sempre una destinata in particolare a noi. Qualcosa che tocca il cuore. Accolta nel cuore, essa può illuminare la nostra giornata, e animare la nostra preghiera. Si tratta di non lasciarla cadere nel vuoto!...”
During the General Audience on Wednesday, June 12th, 2024, Pope Francis continued his reflections on the Holy Spirit and invited those present to read the Gospel every day. Then, on the subject of homilies, he said:
“And the homily, that comment by the celebrant, must help to transfer the Word of God from the book to life.But for this, the homily must be brief: an image, a thought and a sentiment. The homily must not go on for more than eight minutes, because after that time, attention is lost and the people fall asleep, and they are right. A homily should be like that. And I want to say this to priests, who talk a lot, very often, and one does not understand what they are talking about. A brief homily: a thought, a sentiment and a cue for action, for what to do. No more than eight minutes. Because the homily must help transfer the Word of God from the book to life.And among the many words of God that we listen to every day in Mass or in the Liturgy of the Hours, there is always one that is meant especially for us.Something that touches the heart. Welcomed into the heart, it can illuminate our day and inspire our prayer. It is a question of not letting it fall on deaf ears!”
