Nella Cattedrale di St. Theresia a Padang, l'arcivescovo di Medan, Kornelius Sipayung OFMCap., ha conferito l’ordinazione presbiterale al nostro confratello Marselinus Yerisko sx (15 luglio 2021). La sua prima messa è stata celebrata nel "Taman Bahagia" - il piccolo cimitero dei Saveriani defunti presso la Domus di Padang – in occasione del 70° anniversario dell’arrivo dei saveriani in Indonesia. Il giorno seguente (17 luglio 2021), abbiamo celebrato la messa in memoria dei nostri cari confratelli defunti, deceduti il medesimo giorno (in anni diversi): p. Vincenzo Baravalle sx, p. Giuseppe Bagnara sx e Fr. Antonio Mannucci sx.

Per quanto riguarda la situazione della pandemia nell’Isola di Sumatra, i casi di contagio da Covid non sono così gravi come nell’isola di Giava. All’interno della città di Padang ci si può ancora muovere per andare a lavorare o spostarsi da un capo all’altro, tuttavia non è possibile raggiungere i nostri confratelli che lavorano a Bukit Tinggi. I collegamenti dei trasporti, infatti, da una città all'altra sono bloccati completamente, ad eccezione dei casi d'emergenza. Il governo centrale ha imposto severe restrizioni, ma non sono totalmente osservate dalla gente. (da Padang, Sumatra ovest, Alfonsus Widhiwiryawan sx)

On July 15^th, 2021, in St. Theresia Cathedral of Padang, the archbishop of Medan, Mons. Kornelius Sipayung OFM Cap. conferred the priestly ordination on our confrere Marselinus Yerisko s.x. On the occasion of the 70^th anniversary of the first Xaverians’ arrival in Indonesia, he celebrated his First Mass in the “Taman Bahagia” – the small cemetery of deceased Xaverians located near the Domus of Padang. The following day (July 17^th, 2021), we celebrated a memorial Mass for our dear confreres who died the same day (in different years), i.e., Fr. Vincenzo Baravalle s.x., Fr. Giuseppe Bagnara s.x. and Br. Antonio Mannucci s.x.

As far as the situation of the pandemic in Sumatra Island is concerned, the number of Covid cases is not so critical as that in the island of Java. One can still move freely within Padang to go work or reach different parts of the city. However, we cannot reach our confreres who work in Bukit Tinggi as all transportations from one city to another are completely blocked with the exception of emergencies.
