Noi incaricati dell’archivio generalizio e della regione italiana, riflettendo sugli autografi del Fondatore ci siamo accorti che molto importanti erano i manoscritti (lettere, omelie, panegirici e altro) prodotti dal Fondatore nel tempo iniziale della sua vita e nel periodo del suo ministero episcopale Ravennate e Parmense.
In genere gli autografi sono minute, copie preparatorie ai testi ufficiali. Sono i testi rimasti nelle nostre mani dal momento che le belle copie sono andate ai destinatari. Gli autografi però sono importanti perché ci aiutano a capire il pensiero del fondatore nel suo processo. Prendendo in mano il materiale abbiamo riscontrato che c’erano due difficoltà. La prima: la grafia del Fondatore non è di facile lettura. Questo perché non abbiamo le belle copie e lo stile rispetta il linguaggio del tempo ben differente dell’attuale. La seconda: la ricerca nel computer avviene solo su testi dattiloscritti, cioè riconoscibili.
Ecco allora il lavoro per facilitare la comprensione dei testi e la ricerca in computer: trascriverli tutti in forma dattiloscritta. In questo modo l’autografo rimane comunque a disposizione per un controllo in caso di dubbio e di verifica o per una corretta citazione. Anche per gli autografi sarà fatta la digitalizzazione che corrisponderà al testo dattiloscritto.
Si va dal 1895, data di fondazione dell’Istituto, al 1931 data della morte del Conforti. C’è anche una serie di scritti del Conforti nel tempo precedente al 1895.
Crediamo che tutto questo possa servire in modo particolare la formazione permettendo una conoscenza diretta e autentica del pensiero del Fondatore e la ricerca di chi voglia avvicinarsi alla storia del Conforti e della nostra Congregazione di cui saranno offerti altri testi. Tutto sempre in formato digitale a salvaguardia degli originali custoditi nell’archivio cartaceo. (Giancarlo Lazzarini sx)
While reflecting on the hand-written documents left by the Founder, we, the staff in charge of the General Archive and the Archive of the Italian Region, realised that those documents (letters, homilies, speeches and other) the Founder produced in the initial period of his life and in that of his ministry as bishop of Ravenna and Parma were very important.
By and large, the hand-written documents are draft papers of official texts. These are the material that was left to us, while the final versions were sent to their intended recipients. However, these original autographs are important, for they help us appreciate the Founder’s way of thinking. In dealing with this material, we were faced with two problems: The first, the Founder’s handwriting is difficult to read. This is due to the fact that we do not have their final clean copy, and that the Founder’s style follows the Italian language used at that time, which is rather different from ours today. The second problem is that computers can search only texts which are printed, that is, texts which the computer can recognise.
Thus, work must be done to facilitate the understanding of the texts and allow for the use of computer in the analysis of documents. Such work consists in transcribing all texts in printed form. In this manner, the original autographed text remains available as first source for verification in case of doubts.
Our documents span over a period that begins in 1895, year of our Institute’s foundation, and reaches 1931, date of Conforti’s death. There is also a series of Conforti’s writings from before 1895. We believe that all these sources can be useful especially to our formation programmes, for they allow a more direct and authentic access to the Founder’s thought; they may also be useful to those who want to approach the history of Conforti and of our congregation; on the latter, there are other sources which we can provide. Everything will be in digital format, so as to safeguard the original documents which are kept in the paper archive. (Giancarlo Lazzarini s.x.)
