Nella cornice dell’Anno Giubilare 2025, Domenica 19 ottobre, la Chiesa celebra la XCIX Giornata Missionaria Mondiale. Il cuore della Giornata Missionaria viene indicato dalle stesse parole del Signore risorto: “Dio non ha mandato il Figlio nel mondo per giudicare il mondo, ma perché il mondo fosse salvato per mezzo di lui” (Gv 3, 17). In questa salvezza Dio dona ad ogni figlio e figlia la speranza. E sperare è attendere qualcosa che ci è già stato donato: la salvezza nell’amore eterno e infinito di Dio. Ma la speranza è anche un compito che i cristiani hanno il dovere di coltivare e mettere a frutto per il bene di tutti. Il compito è quello di restare fedeli al dono ricevuto.

Nelle molteplici vocazioni alla missione, la Chiesa rimane strumento di salvezza e porta la speranza.

Nel Messaggio per la Giornata Missionaria Mondiale, Papa Francesco, ci incoraggiava tutti con queste parole: “Sentiamoci perciò ispirati anche noi a metterci in cammino sulle orme del Signore Gesù per diventare, con Lui e in Lui, segni e messaggeri di speranza per tutti, in ogni luogo e circostanza che Dio ci dona di vivere. Che tutti i battezzati, discepoli-missionari di Cristo, facciano risplendere la sua speranza in ogni angolo della terra!”. (Yulianus Agung sx)

In the context of the Jubilee Year 2025, on Sunday, October 19^th, the Church celebrates the 99^th World Mission Day. At the heart of Mission Day are the very words uttered by the Risen Lord: “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him” (John 3: 17). With the gift of salvation, God gives hope to each of his sons and daughters. To hope is to wait for something which has already been given to us: being saved in God’s eternal and infinite love. However, hope is also an assignment given to the Christians, for they must cultivate it and make the most of it for the good of all. Their task is to remain faithful to the gift received.

Through the multiplicity of its missionary vocations, the Church keeps being an instrument of salvation that brings hope. In his message for World Mission Day, Pope Francis encouraged us all with these words: “May we too feel inspired to set out in the footsteps of the Lord Jesus to become, with him and in him, signs and messengers of hope for all, in every place and circumstance that God has granted us to live. May all the baptized, as missionary disciples of Christ, make his hope shine forth in every corner of the earth! ” (Yulianus Agung s.x.)
