Sabato 12 marzo 2022 nella Chiesa del Gesù, p. Fernando García Rodríguez sx ha partecipato - insieme a tutti i superiori generali – alla celebrazione eucaristica in occasione del IV centenario della canonizzazione dei santi Isidoro l’Agricoltore, Ignazio di Loyola, Francesco Saverio, Teresa di Gesù e Filippo Neri.

Papa Francesco ha presenziato alla celebrazione (restando per la gran parte della Messa seduto sul lato destro del presbiterio guardando l’altare maggiore), che è stata presieduta dal preposito della Compagnia di Gesù, ma ha pronunciato l’omelia che è partita dal brano evangelico della Trasfigurazione: «Sono quattro le azioni che Gesù compie – ha sottolineato il Papa –: prende con sè Pietro, Giacomo e Giovanni; sale sul monte; prega; e infine resta da solo». Quattro verbi, quattro gesti «nei quali possiamo trovare indicazioni per il nostro cammino».

Conclusa l’Eucaristia, i partecipanti, in processione, si sono recati alla cappella di Sant’Ignazio dove erano state collocate le reliquie degli altri santi, per esprimere il rendimento di grazie a Dio Padre per il dono di questi uomini e di questa donna, esemplari nella testimonianza dell’assoluta priorità di Dio, nella fedele e creativa riforma della vita religiosa nella Chiesa, nella carità particolare verso i giovani e nel portare il Vangelo dai quartieri di Roma fino ai confini della terra.

On Saturday, March 12^th, 2022, in Chiesa del Gesù (Rome), Fr. Fernando García Rodríguez s.x., along with all general superiors, participated in the Eucharistic celebration marking the 4^th centenary of the canonization of St Isidore the Farm Labourer, St Ignatius of Loyola, St Francis Xavier, St Teresa of Jesus and St Philip Neri. 

Pope Francis attended the celebration (for large part of the Mass he remained seated at the right side of the presbytery), which was presided over by the Praepositus Generalis of the Society of Jesus. However, the pope delivered the homily which was based on the Gospel passage about the Transfiguration. “Four are Jesus’ actions – emphasised the Pope -: he took with him Peter, James and John; he went up on the mountain; he prayed; and finally, he was found alone.” Four verbs, or four gestures “in which we can find directions for our own journey”.

At the end of the Mass, participants went in procession to St Ignatius Chapel where also the relics of the other saints had been placed; there, participants expressed their thanksgiving to God the Father for the gift of these men and this woman, who were exemplary in their witness to God’s absolute priority through their  faithful and creative reform of religious life in the Church, through special charity towards the youth and by bringing the Gospel from the suburbs of Rome to the ends of the earth.
