L’idea ispiratrice del XVI Capitolo Regionale era stata tratta dal brano di Atti 3:5-6 ovvero l’episodio di Pietro e Giovanni che si recano al tempio: “…non possiedo né argento né oro, ma quello che ho te lo do: nel nome di Gesù Cristo, il Nazareno, cammina!”. Ovvero, noi Saveriani abbiamo ricevuto un dono che desideriamo condividere con il popolo a cui siamo inviati. La coscienza di aver ricevuto un carisma-vocazione che è ricchezza per noi e per tutti, ha guidato la riflessione sulla nostra attuale attività Ad Gentes, chiedendoci come - alla luce dei tempi e della attuale situazione sociale ed ecclesiale in cambiamento del Giappone - possiamo ancora offrire, come Pietro e Giovanni, quel di più, che supera ogni attesa. Ispirati dalla nostra storia missionaria, che lo scorso anno ha superato la soglia dei 70 anni, accogliamo la sfida di offrire nuove o rinnovate presenze significative negli ambienti ecclesiali e sociali di questo paese. La chiesa ci invita sempre ad essere aperti e creativi nel nostro stile missionario e Saveriano, di compiere l’opera di evangelizzazione fra i non Cristiani di questo paese (più del 99 per cento). Il nostro impegno di testimoniare e offrire il carisma saveriano ricevuto da san Guido Maria Conforti, affinché sia da tutti conosciuto e amato, il nostro Signore Gesù Cristo si concretizza: 1) nell’ animazione delle comunità Cristiane, vale a dire le “parrocchie missionarie”; 2) nella formazione ai valori cristiani attraverso varie presenze nelle realtà educative come le scuole materne, le scuole cattoliche, i seminari e università; 3) nel campo del Dialogo con le Religioni e del Dialogo con le culture; 4) nelle varie situazioni di disagio sociale, come l’ immigrazione e le carceri. The theme of the XVI Regional Chapter was taken from Acts 3: 5-6, that is, the episode of Peter and John meeting a cripple on their way into the temple:  “… ‘I have neither silver nor gold, but I will give you what I have: in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene, walk!’ ”  We Xaverians have received a gift that we wish to share with the people whom we have been sent to. This awareness of having received a charism-vocation – a gift that is a treasure for us and for all people – led our reflection on our activities ad gentes. In the light of the present time and Japan’s current social and ecclesial situation of on-going change, we questioned ourselves on whether, like Peter and John, we have something more, something going beyond any expectations and that we can still offer. By drawing inspiration from our missionary history, which last year crossed the threshold of 70 years, we take on the challenge to offer new or renewed forms of meaningful presence in the ecclesial and social milieus of this country. The Church keeps inviting us to maintain an open and creative missionary and Xaverian style and keeps asking us to carry on the work of evangelisation among the non-Christians of this country (more than 99%). Our commitment is to bear witness and offer the Xaverian charism we received from St Guido Maria Conforti, so that our Lord Jesus Christ may be known and loved by all: 1) through building Christian communities, namely, “missionary parishes”; 2) through training in Christian values by means of our activities in various fields of education, such as kindergartens, Catholic schools, seminaries and universities; 3) through interreligious dialogue and dialogue with culture; 4) through being present in contexts of social predicament, such as the conditions of immigrants and prisons (Claudio Codenotti sx)
