Martedì 22 novembre 2022, alle ore 13:00, le spoglie di Mons. Catarzi sono arrivate all'aeroporto di Bujumbura, accolte da una delegazione di Saveriani e della Diocesi di Bujumbura. Il Ministero dell'Interno del Burundi e l'Ambasciata della RDC hanno reso facili tutte le procedure amministrative. I Saveriani che lavorano in Burundi hanno accompagnato il feretro al confine con la Repubblica Democratica del Congo. Due confratelli della Regione saveriana del Burundi si sono uniti al corteo fino ad Uvira. Alle 14:30, il passaggio della frontiera di Gatumba, tra il Burundi e il Congo. Un corteo numeroso di macchine e di gente a piedi ha seguito il carro funebre per un tragitto di circa 12km, dalla frontiera alla cattedrale di Uvira. Lungo il percorso, gli studenti delle scuole cattoliche e la popolazione hanno assicurato l'accoglienza. La sicurezza è stata garantita dai movimenti di Azione Cattolica (Movimento Xaveri).  Alle 17:30 le spoglie di Mons. Catarzi sono arrivate alla cattedrale di Uvira. È seguita la liturgia del Vespro presieduta da Mons. Sebastien Joseph Muyengo Mulome, 4° successore di Mons. Catarzi.  Durante la celebrazione sono state condivise le testimonianze di due laici, di un sacerdote diocesano e del confratello p. Piero Mazzocchin. Alle 20:00 è iniziata la veglia di preghiera. Durante tutta la notte i cristiani sono stati accanto alle spoglie del vescovo Catarzi all'interno della cattedrale.

Mercoledì 23 novembre 2022, alle ore 8:00, la salma è stata portata dalla cattedrale alla chiesa di Kavimvira (luogo della celebrazione e dell'inumazione). Alle 9:00 è stata celebrata l'Eucaristia all'aperto, sul sagrato della chiesa di Kavimvira. Alla celebrazione eucaristica hanno partecipato circa 6000 persone, con rappresentanti di tutte le parrocchie della diocesi. Hanno concelebrato una cinquantina di sacerdoti. Fra i presenti, le diverse comunità religiose di Uvira, un vescovo dell'ECC (Eglise du Christ au Congo) venuto da Bukavu, il sindaco della città, le autorità militari e i capi tradizionali. Alla fine della celebrazione, le autorità hanno preso la parola. In particolare, il sindaco ha reso pubblico il decreto municipale con cui si intitola la strada che porta alla cattedrale di Uvira: "Avenue Mons. Danilo Catarzi" , rimuovendo così il nome di prima: "Avenue de la Mission".

La popolazione locale, indipendentemente dalla confessione religiosa, riconosce Mons. Catarzi come uno di loro. Il loro primo vescovo, infatti, “non aveva mai pensato di abbandonare i congolesi nella loro tribolazione”. (Gabriel Basuzwa sx e Faustino Turco sx)

On Tuesday, November 22^nd, 2022, at 1:00 p.m., the body of Msgr. Catarzi arrived at the airport of Bujumbura (Burundi), where it was welcomed by a delegation of Xaverians and representatives from Bujumbura Diocese. The Ministry of Interior of Burundi and the DRC Embassy facilitated all bureaucratic procedures. The Xaverians that work in Burundi accompanied the coffin to the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Two confreres from the Xaverian Region of Burundi joined the cortege to Uvira. At 2:30 p.m., in Gatumba the cortege crossed the frontier between Burundi and Congo. A long line of cars and people on foot followed the hearse for as far as 12 kilometres, from the frontier to the cathedral of Uvira. Along the way, students of the catholic schools and the population expressed their welcome. The safety of the event was ensured by Catholic Action (Movimento Xaveri) movements. At 5:30 p.m., the body of Msgr. Catarzi arrived in the cathedral of Uvira, where a Vesper service presided over by Msgr. Sebastien Joseph Muyengo Mulome, fourth successor of Msgr. Catarzi, took place. In the course of the liturgy, two lay Christians shared their witness. A diocesan priest and our confrere Fr. Piero Mazzocchin s.x. also shared their own witness.  At 8:00 p.m., a prayer vigil began. During the night, Christians remained at the side of Bishop Catarzi’s remains inside the cathedral.

On Wednesday, November 23^rd, 2022, at 8:00 a.m., the body was taken from the cathedral to the church of Kavimvira – the place where the celebration and burying would take place. At 9:00 a.m., an outdoor Mass was celebrated in the church square of Kavimvira. About 6000 people participated in the Eucharist, with representatives from all the parishes of the diocese. More than 50 priests concelebrated. Among those present were several religious communities in Uvira, a bishop of the ECC (Eglise du Christ au Congo) who came from Bukavu, the city mayor, military authorities and traditional chiefs. At the end of the celebrations, the authorities made speeches. Notably, the city mayor disclosed a decree by the city council which has renamed the street leading to the cathedral of Uvira as “Aveneu Mons. Danilo Catarzi”, thus cancelling the previous “Aveneu de la Mission”.

Regardless of their religious faith, local people consider Msgr. Catarzi as one of them. Their first bishop that, as a matter of fact, “never thought of abandoning the Congolese in their tribulations.” (Gabriel Basuzwa sx and Faustino Turco sx)
