Riprendiamo in questo dicembre 2021, nella nostra casa saveriana di Vicenza, l’esposizione dei presepi, che è stata sospesa lo scorso anno a causa dell’epidemia.

Da decenni c’è questa tradizione di esporre centinaia di presepi provenienti da ogni parte del mondo.  L’iniziativa è possibile grazie al lavoro di una trentina di volontari (GAMS), che con passione ed entusiasmo durante l’anno a casa o nei locali della vecchia scuola creano piccoli capolavori. Le statuine arrivano dalle varie missioni del mondo e sono disposte dai nostri artisti nel loro ambiente di origine: nel freddo polare del polo Nord o nella capanna sotto il caldo sole africano, nella elegante casa giapponese e nell’abitazione povera del contadino brasiliano.

Ci sono presepi piccoli, quasi tascabili, e presepi a grandezza naturale, come quelli che sono allestiti all’aperto. Il più imponente è nel prato vicino alla chiesetta del venerabile p. Pietro Uccelli, dove sono rappresentati 16 musicisti disposti in cerchio attorno al bambino Gesù. Formano una vera orchestra diretta dal piccolo festeggiato, che sta in mezzo, in piedi, con in mano la bacchetta del maestro direttore. I musicisti sono di varie culture e hanno strumenti diversi. Lo spartito è uguale per tutti e la sinfonia è celestiale. L’opera è l’immagine di come deve essere il mondo di “Fratelli tutti”, nella diversità di culture e, nello stesso tempo, nella volontà di realizzare un’armonia di rispetto reciproco e di pace.

Il presepio è il mirabile segno che suscita stupore e meraviglia nel richiamare il vangelo della nascita di Gesù e del diritto ad ogni popolo d’accoglierlo nella propria cultura. I visitatori arrivano in casa nostra dalla città, dalla provincia e da altre parti ed è occasione per aprire la festa del Natale all’annuncio missionario e alle necessità del mondo di oggi. During December 2021, the exhibition of nativity scenes (presepi) resumes in our Xaverian house of Vicenza. It was interrupted last year due to the pandemic. The tradition of exhibiting hundreds of nativity scenes coming from all parts of the world has been carried on for decades. It is an initiative made possible by the work of about thirty volunteers (GAMS). Throughout the year, at home or in the premises of the former Xaverian school, they create little masterpieces with passion and enthusiasm. The statuettes come from various missions in the world and are arranged by our artists in their respective settings: in the freezing cold of the Northern Pole or in a hut under the hot African sun, or in an elegant Japanese house or in the poor dwelling of a Brazilian peasant.

Some presepi are very small, almost pocket-size, while other are life-size, such as those installed outdoors. The hugest one is in the meadow around the chapel of the venerable Fr. Pietro Uccelli. It shows 16 musicians surrounding the baby Jesus. They form a little orchestra conducted by the Holy Infant who stands with a baton in his hand at the centre of the feast. The musicians belong to different cultures and hold different musical instruments, but the musical score is the same for everyone, while the symphony is celestial. This artefact is an image of how a Fratelli tutti world should be: diversity of cultures and, at the same time, the will to bring about harmony through mutual respect and peace.

The nativity scene is a marvellous sign for it provokes surprise and wonder by retelling the Good News of Jesus’ nativity and the right of every people to welcome Him in his own culture. Visitors come to our house from the city, the province and other places. The exhibition creates a chance for extending the message of Christmas to missionary proclamation and to raising awareness of the needs of today’s world. (Giuseppe Dovigo s.x.)
