“Imparate a fare il bene, cercate la giustizia” (Isaia, 1,17) è il tema scelto per la Settimana di preghiera per l’unità dei cristiani del 2023 . Il sussidio è stato preparato da un gruppo locale degli Stati Uniti d’America (USA) e costituito dal Consiglio delle chiese del Minnesota, con l’aiuto della Commissione internazionale nominata congiuntamente dal Dicastero per la promozione dell’unità dei cristiani e dalla Commissione Fede e costituzione (Consiglio ecumenico delle chiese).

Le divisioni tra le confessioni cristiani sono comparabili alle divisioni all’interno della più ampia famiglia umana (cf. Sussidio, p. 4). Ora tutte le divisioni si oppongono al progetto di Dio sull’umanità e sulla creazione. Per curare i mali causati dalla divisione occorre impegnarsi, ci dice il profeta, nell’agire per il bene (cf. Is 1, 12-18). Però fare il bene si impara da Dio. Giovanni Paolo II diceva a proposito: “Solo Dio può rispondere alla domanda sul bene, perché Egli è il Bene. Interrogarsi sul bene, in effetti, significa rivolgersi in ultima analisi verso Dio, pienezza della bontà” (Veritatis splendor, n. 9).  (Robert Kowa Sado sx)

“Do good, seek justice” (Isaiah 1:17) is the theme selected for the 2023 Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. A booklet with the same title has been prepared for the occasion by a group set up in the USA by the Council of Churches in Minnesota, with the assistance of the International Commission jointly appointed by the Dicastery for Promoting Christian Unity and the Faith and Order Commission (World Council of Churches).   

Divisions among Christian denominations are comparable to the divisions inside the larger human family (see the booklet, p. 4). All divisions are against God’s project for humanity and creation. In order to heal the evils caused by division, the prophet reminds us that we must act for good (Isaiah 1:12-18). However, one learns from God to do good. On this regard, John Paul II said: “Only God can answer the question about what is good, because he is the Good itself. To ask about the good, in fact, ultimately means to turn towards God, the fullness of goodness.”(Veritatis splendor, 9).
