Il tema della Settimana di Preghiera per l’Unità dei Cristiani che si terrà dal 18 al 25 gennaio 2024 è “Amerai il Signore Dio tuo … e il prossimo tuo come te stesso” (Luca, 10, 27). I materiali sono stati preparati da un gruppo interconfessionale del Burkina Faso. I rappresentanti dell’arcidiocesi di Ouagadougou, delle Chiese protestanti e degli organismi ecumenici locali hanno partecipato insieme alla stesura delle preghiere e delle riflessioni.

Nel sussidio si sottolinea che “la preparazione dei testi per la Settimana di preghiera per l’unità dei cristiani, in questo periodo così precario della storia del loro Paese, ha aiutato il gruppo ecumenico di redazione a riconoscere che l’amore di Cristo unisce tutti i cristiani e che è più forte delle loro divisioni. Alla fine di questo lavoro, hanno riconosciuto che lavorare insieme per l’unità è stata per loro una vera esperienza di conversione ecumenica”. Il sussidio, tutto incentrato sulla parabola del buon samaritano (Luca, 10, 25-37), invita con forza ogni cristiano a condividere questo cammino di conversione ecumenica. Il Burkina Faso negli ultimi sette anni è stato tragicamente segnato dagli attacchi e dalle violenze dei gruppi jihadisti che hanno provocato la morte di migliaia di civili e costretto circa due milioni di persone, su ventuno milioni di abitanti, ad abbandonare le proprie case nel disperato tentativo di porsi in salvo.

I redattori del testo, inoltre sottolineano che, proprio in questo contesto spinoso, “sta emergendo un certo grado di solidarietà fra cristiani, musulmani e appartenenti alle religioni tradizionali. I loro leader stanno lavorando per trovare soluzioni durature per la pace, la coesione sociale e la riconciliazione”.

The theme for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity that will be held from January 18^th to 25^th, 2024, is “You shall love the Lord your God… and your neighbour as yourself” (Luke 10: 17). The preparation of the materials for the celebrations was carried out by an ecumenical team from Burkina Faso. Representatives of Ouagadougou Archdiocese, of Protestant Churches and local ecumenical bodies worked together for the drafting of prayers and reflections.

In the material, they emphasised the fact the “preparation of the texts for the Week of Prayer for Christian unity during such a precarious period in their country’s history helped the ecumenical drafting group to recognise that the love of Christ unites all Christians and is stronger than their divisions. At the end of the work, they recognised that working together in this way had been a real experience of ecumenical conversion for them.” The material, which centres all around the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10: 25-37), strongly invites every Christian to join this journey of ecumenical conversion. Over the last seven years, Burkina Faso was tragically scarred by attacks and violence perpetrated by Jihadist groups that caused the death of thousands of civilians and forced about two million people, out of 21 million inhabitants, to flee their homes in a desperate attempt to save their lives.

Moreover, the drafting group stress that, in this very painful context, “a degree of solidarity is emerging between the Christian, Muslim and traditional religions. Their leaders are working to find lasting solutions for peace, social cohesion and reconciliation.”
