Le origini e la proiezione di questa Giornata mondiale si ispirano allo storico momento di preghiera, la Statio Orbis di Papa Francesco pronunciata quel giorno dell’anno 2020 a piazza San Pietro. Come ogni anno, questa Giornata Mondiale della Speranza, ci ricorda quell’evento spartiacque nella storia dell’umanità in generale e nella religiosità cristiana ed ecumenica in particolare.

Questo 27 marzo 2024 ci trova non solo ad attraversare i processi distopici degli anni passati, ma anche a far fronte a nuove e dolorose guerre. Sembrerebbe che i valori degli accordi per una pace possibile, gli appelli per un’umanità solidale e inclusiva e gli allarmi urgenti sui disastri planetari siano caduti in disuso o passati sotto silenzio. Con questa giornata si intende rinnovare, rivivere e riaffermare quel 27 marzo 2020 quando Papa Francesco ha raggiunto, solo e sotto la pioggia, il sagrato di piazza San Pietro e in una storica preghiera ha ricordato che siamo tutti “sulla stessa barca, tutti fragili e disorientati, ma nello stesso tempo importanti e necessari, tutti chiamati a remare insieme, tutti bisognosi di confortarci a vicenda”.

The origins and perspective of this World Day draw inspiration from the historical moment of prayer, the Statio Orbis, which Pope Francis delivered in St Peter Square on that day of 2020. Since then, this yearly World Day of Hope reminds us of that event which represents a turning point in human history and, in particular, in Christian and ecumenical religiosity.

On March 27^th, 2024, we are not only going through the dystopian processes of the past years, but also facing new and painful wars. Apparently, the value of agreements for a possible peace, appeals for human solidarity and inclusivity, and the alarms in the face of the planet calamities have become obsolete or left unheard. This World Day is meant to renew, re-experience and reaffirm that March 27^th, 2020, when Pope Francis, alone and in the rain, reached the parvis of St Peter Square and with an historical prayer reminded all that “we are on the same boat, all of us fragile and disoriented, but at the same time important and needed, all of us called to row together, each of us in need of comforting the other.”
