A CONCLUSIONE DEL VI CONVEGNO DEI RETTORI DELLE TEOLOGIE

Carissimi Rettori,

abbiamo concluso il VI Convegno dedicato ai Rettori delle Teologie. Grazie per la vostra partecipazione, che è stata fruttuosa perché ben preparata e desiderata.

Il Convegno è stato produttivo perché esso ha rimesso nei nostri animi la gioia di essere saveriani e la consapevolezza che il servizio di Formatore di Professi temporanei è una grazia alla quale porre tutte le nostre energie, la nostra intelligenza, le doti e le virtù che il Signore ci ha dato.

La Formazione di candidati alla vita saveriana, nella loro fase finale della Formazione di Base, è delicata e, contemporaneamente, gratificante. Infatti, per mezzo di questo servizio ci sentiamo di realizzare le parole delle Costituzioni: L’accoglienza di nuovi membri e la loro formazione è parte integrante del nostro servizio missionario (C 52).

Aiutati dagli esperti ci siamo inoltrati, senza paura, in alcune considerazioni molto concrete ed esigenti per il Formatore:

1. La considerazione dell’epoca nella quale viviamo e operiamo e il suo rapporto con le sensibilità dei giovani, con i progetti che le società proiettano insistentemente sotto i nostri occhi, con le nuove esigenze della missione. Paure, interpretazioni diversificate della Vita Consacrata, incertezze esistenziali causate dalla cosiddetta cultura liquida, Chiesa in cambiamento e molteplici esperienze personali, sono riflessioni e considerazioni che non abbiamo lasciato da parte. Il Convegno ci ha tenuto aperti gli occhi su queste realtà, con il risultato di aver compreso con gioia profonda che il Carisma saveriano è ancora necessario per la Chiesa ed è un dono per la Missione. Ci siamo ripetuti che il Carisma saveriano è tipico, speciale, dono unico e se si differenzia da altri Carismi, è solo per completarli e non per giudicarli!
2. Le crisi profonde che toccano le nostre comunità di Teologia. Non abbiamo usato mezzi termini per considerare alcune situazioni e comportamenti e l’apertura di cuore e mente allo Spirito Santo ci ha aiutato a riconoscere ciò che va tolto, evitato, mai giustificato. Il carisma che abbiamo e l’esempio del Fondatore sono di grande nobiltà e risplendono per dignità morale e umana. Nelle nostre comunità queste sono condizioni indispensabili. Anche questa analisi altro non ha prodotto se non nuova energia per formare bene i futuri confratelli.
3. L’interculturalità e le sue esigenze e potenzialità. Non abbiamo cercato nuovi sistemi per tentare una maggiore armonizzazione all’interno delle nostre comunità interculturali o per evitare conflitti, ma abbiamo preso coscienza che essa, oltre ad essere una caratteristica tipica del carisma stesso, è già in sé un grande strumento formativo. A questa consapevolezza desideriamo guidare ogni formando, chiedendogli contemporaneamente di non distogliere gli occhi dal carisma e di non usare mai la propria cultura come scudo per proteggere la sua individualità. Le nostre comunità per essere saveriane devono essere aperte!
4. Necessità che tutta la Congregazione prenda coscienza del suo ruolo formativo. Abbiamo sottolineato molto questa esigenza, ed essa è veramente importante: La formazione dei Saveriani, animata dallo Spirito, è opera d’insieme che coinvolge tutto l’Istituto, la famiglia, la parrocchia, la scuola, l’ambiente sociale e, in modo speciale, i giovani in formazione ed i loro educatori (C. 57). Vorremo che questo nostro appello arrivasse alle orecchie e ai cuori di tutti i Confratelli, perché i formandi sono patrimonio di tutti noi e tutti dobbiamo porvi mano con coscienza e responsabilità.

Ogni mattina ci siamo radunati per lodare il Signore e celebrare la Eucarestia. Ogni sera abbiamo ringraziato Dio Padre per il dono della giornata e dei lavori fatti. Certamente il Signore ci ha benedetti e guidati.

Un grazie particolare a p. E. Pulcini che ha seguito la preparazione e lo svolgimento del Convegno, con piena nostra soddisfazione. Grazie anche al Rettore e Segretario p. M. Milia e all’Economo fr. G. Pinna per la disponibilità e attenzione.

Vi auguro un buon lavoro: facciamolo sempre in comunione.

CONCLUSION OF THE 6TH MEETING OF THEOLOGY RECTORS

Dear Rectors,

we have concluded the VI Meeting dedicated to the Theology Rectors. Thank you for your participation, which was  fruitful thanks to your efforts and dedication.

The Meeting was productive because it renewed both our heartfelt joy at being Xaverians, and our awareness that serving the temporary professed confreres as Formators is a grace in which we must invest all our energy, intelligence, skills and virtues that the Lord has given us.

The Formation of candidates to the Xaverian life, in the final stage of their Initial Formation, is a delicate task and, at the same time, a gratifying one. Indeed, through this service we feel that we are fulfilling the words of the Constitutions: The admission and formation of new members is an integral part of our missionary service (C 52).

With the help of the invited experts, we ventured without fear into the consideration of some very specific and demanding aspects of the Formator’s task:

1. We looked at the era in which we are living and working, and its relationship with the sensitivities of young people, with the projects that society is insistently placing before our eyes and the new demands of the mission. Fears, different interpretations of the Consecrated Life, existential uncertainties caused by the so-called liquid culture, the changing Church and many personal experiences, are all reflections and considerations that we did not put aside. The Meeting helped us to keep our eyes open to these realities, with the result that we understood with profound joy that the Xaverian Charism is still necessary for the Church and is a gift for the Mission. We reasserted the fact that the Xaverian Charism is typical, special, a unique gift and, if it is different from others, it is only to complete them, not judge them!
2. The profound crises that affect our Theology communities. We spoke in no uncertain terms of some situations and behaviors, and keeping our mind and heart open to the Holy Spirit helped us to recognize what should be taken away, avoided and never justified. The great nobility of our charism and the Founder’s example shine with their human and moral dignity. These are essential conditions in our communities. This analysis too gave us new energy for forming the future confreres well.
3. Interculturality and its demands and potential. We did not seek new systems for attempting a greater harmonization within our intercultural communities or to avoid conflict, but we became aware that, besides being a typical characteristic of our charism, it is already a great formation tool. We wish to guide every confrere in formation to this awareness, by asking him at the same time to keep his eyes fixed on the charism, and not to use his own culture as a shield for protecting his individuality. In order to be Xaverian, our communities must be open!
4. The necessity that the entire Congregation be aware of its formative role. We placed great emphasis on this need and it is truly important: The formation of Xaverians, inspired by the Spirit, is a collective task involving the entire Institute, the family, the parish, the school, the social milieu and, especially, the students in formation and their formators (C. 57). We want our appeal to reach the ears and hearts of all the Confreres, because our candidates are the patrimony of the entire Congregation and all of us must take care of it with conscience and responsibility.

Each morning we gathered to praise the Lord and celebrate the Eucharist. Each evening we thanked God our Father for the gift of the day and the work we did. The Lord has undoubtedly blessed and guided us.

A special word of thanks to Fr. E. Pulcini, who followed the preparation and development of the Meeting to our great satisfaction. Thanks also to the Rector and Secretary, Fr. M. Milia, and the Treasurer, Br. L. Pinna, for their availability and attention.

I wish you all the best in your work: let us always carry it out in communion with each other.

Let us ask for the protection of Our Blessed Lady and the blessing of our Founder.
