NOTE BIOGRAFICHE DI P. AUGUSTO LUCA (1917-2018)
Il 12 marzo 2018, intorno alle ore 15.00, in Casa Madre, a Parma, si è spento serenamente il padre Augusto Luca. Aveva quasi 101 anni, essendo nato il 21.04.1917 a Mure di Molvena (VI).
Il 3 ottobre 1929 il giovane Augusto entra nella casa saveriana di Vicenza dove frequenta i tre anni di Scuola Media inferiore.
Dopo due anni passati nella casa di Grumone, nel 1934 il giovane Augusto va a San Pietro in Vincoli per frequentare l’anno di noviziato, alla fine del quale emette la prima professione religiosa (12.09.1935).
Dopo gli studi liceali e teologici fatti a Parma, Augusto Luca viene ordinato presbitero a Vicenza il 28.03.1943.
Dopo un anno passato a Parma come Vice Rettore in Casa Madre, e un altro anno trascorso a Grumone come insegnante, p. Luca viene destinato a Parma come Direttore dell’Ufficio stampe. Nel 1949 viene mandato a Roma a lavorare presso le PP.OO.MM.
Nel 1951 p. Luca viene destinato al Giappone. Dopo un anno di lingua a Osaka e un anno trascorso come vice parroco a Miyazaki, p. Luca svolge il servizio di economo regionale (’52-’56), di parroco a Kishiwada (’55-’59) e di maestro dei novizi (’59-’64). Nel 1963 diventa superiore regionale.
Nel 1966 p. Luca viene eletto Consigliere Generale e gli viene affidato l’incarico di Prefetto delle Missioni.
Terminato il suo mandato di cinque anni, p. Luca svolge vari servizi, sia per la regione Italiana che per la Delegazione Centrale, e lo fa “con competenza, riflessione, discernimento, coraggio, ottimismo” (lettera del p. Generale del 25.08.2015).
“Di grande valore missionario è, inoltre, la sua produzione letteraria, tutta incentrata sulla Missione, tramite riflessioni, studi particolari, biografie di grandi missionari, la storia del nostro Istituto” (lettera del p. Generale del 25.08.2015).
P. Luca svolse anche dei servizi in favore della Diocesi di Parma e di alcune congregazioni religiose femminili.
Anche se, ultimamente, le forze lo abbandonavano, padre Luca non aveva “che da ringraziare il Signore. Il Signore non poteva essere più buono con me! .... Mi sto preparando all’incontro con il Signore” (lettera al p. Generale del 28.08.2015).
Finalmente; il 12 marzo 2018, padre Luca poté incontrare di persona Colui che aveva lungamente servito e contemplare la Sua gloria.

FR. AUGUSTO LUCA (1917-2018)
Fr. Augusto Luca died peacefully in the Mother House, Parma, on 12 March 2018. Born in Mure di Molvena (VI) on 21 April 1917, he was almost 101 years old.
He joined the Xaverian community of Vicenza on 3 October 1929, where he attended the three years of junior high school.
After two years in the house of Grumone, in 1934 Augusto went to San Pietro in Vincoli for novitiate, at the end of which he made his First Profession (12.09.1935).
After his lyceum and theology studies, he was ordained priest in Vicenza on 28 March 1943.
After a year in Parma as vice-rector of the Mother House, and another year in Grumone as a teacher, Fr. Luca was assigned to Parma as Director of the Press Office. In 1949 he was sent to Rome to work at the Pontifical Mission Societies.
In 1951 he was assigned to Japan. After one year studying the language in Osaka and a year as assistant priest in Miyazaki, Fr. Luca served as Regional treasurer (1952-56), parish priest in Kishiwada (1955-59) and novice master (1959-64). In 1963 he became the Regional Superior.
In 1966 he was elected General Councilor and he was entrusted with the task of Prefect of the Missions.
At the end of his five-year mandate, Fr. Luca carried out various tasks on behalf of the Italian Region and the Central Delegation; he did so “with competence, reflection, discernment, courage and optimism” (letter of the Superior General, 25.08.2015).
“His literary production was of great value: it was entirely focused on the Mission and consisted of reflections, special studies, biographies of great missionaries, the history of our Institute” (letter of the Superior General, 25.08.2015).
Fr. Luca also served the Diocese of Parma and some female religious congregations.
Even when his strength ultimately abandoned him, Fr. Luca continued “to thank the Lord: He could not have been more benevolent towards me! .... I am preparing to meet the Lord” (letter to the Superior General, 28.08.2015).
On 12 March 2018, Fr. Luca finally encountered the Lord he had served for his entire life and can now contemplate His glory.
