(1939 - 2021)
Domenica 5 dicembre 2021, intorno a mezzogiorno, nella Casa Madre di Parma, è deceduto - dopo una malattia fulminea e aggressiva - il nostro confratello p. Carlo Uccelli. Aveva 82 anni compiuti, essendo nato il 22 giugno 1939 a Piacenza.
Nel 1952 il giovane Carlo entra nel Seminario di Bedonia (provincia di Parma, ma diocesi di Piacenza) dove frequenta le scuole medie inferiori e superiori. Nel settembre del 1956 entra nella casa saveriana di S. Pietro in Vincoli dove vive l’anno di noviziato.
Dopo la Prima Professione religiosa-missionaria (fatta il 12 settembre 1957 a S. Pietro in Vincoli), il giovane Carlo continua con il consueto iter scolastico-formativo: liceo a Desio (1957-1960), propedeutica a Parma (1960-1961), prefettato a Cremona (1961-1962), teologia a Roma (1962-1967) dove ottiene la licenza in Teologia all’Angelicum.
Riceve l’ordinazione Presbiterale nella cattedrale di Parma il 17 ottobre 1965.
Finiti gli studi teologici, p. Carlo viene destinato allo CSAM di Parma come promotore vocazionale (1967-1971). Dal 1968 al 1970 è anche Delegato per le Scuole Apostoliche in Italia. In seguito va a Cagliari come rettore della casa apostolica di Cagliari e Direttore del Centro Giovanile Missionario (1971-1974). Trascorre, inoltre, un anno ad Ostia (frazione litoranea del comune di Roma) impegnato in attività di promozione umana (1974-1975).
Nel 1975 p. Carlo viene destinato allo Zaire (l’attuale Repubblica Democratica del Congo). Dopo qualche mese di studio del francese a Parigi e di studio della lingua Swahili a Kiringye, lavora come viceparroco a Shabunda (1976-1977) e a Kakutya (1977-1978). In seguito va a Bunyakiri dove lavora prima come viceparroco (1978-1983) e poi come parroco (1983-1985).
Nel 1985, p. Carlo ritorna in Italia vivendo un periodo di assenza (1985-1998). Nel 1998 viene destinato definitivamente alla regione d’Italia, dove porta avanti a Piombino, Diocesi di Massa Marittima – Livorno (1986-2019) il progetto di Centro Fraternità Missionaria, ponendo l’accento sulla “comunità cristiana” (“fraternità”) costituita da laici e preti, impegnati “corresponsabilmente” a vivere la comunione e la missione ciascuno con un proprio specifico ruolo e servizio.
Il 2 giugno 2019 chiude il Centro Fraternità Missionaria. Dopo alcuni mesi, p. Carlo viene destinato dalla Direzione Regionale Italiana alla Comunità Intercongregazionale di Modica (Ragusa), formata da religiosi e religiose, al servizio dei migranti nonché alla sensibilizzazione sia della chiesa locale sia della società civile circa la dolorosa realtà dell’Immigrazione.
“La prima testimonianza che mi colpisce è quella di vivere insieme: due preti e due famiglie con figli che prima di ‘ogni fare’, vogliono essere discepoli del Signore, tessitori con Lui di una vita rinnovata, fraterna, capace di perdono e di accoglienza reciproca. Una vita di comunione interna, dunque, che proprio perché sperimentata fra loro nella gioia e nella fatica, si apre subito alla comunione con la gente del luogo e diventa missione che annuncia la Buona Notizia di Gesù e si fa solidale con le fatiche, le speranze, i bisogni della gente per una vita più umana” (2002, dopo una visita in Mozambico).
Nell’ottobre 2021, a causa di un male devastante che si era già rivelato con forza, p. Carlo è costretto a trasferirsi alla Casa Madre di Parma. Il 5 dicembre 2021, viene portato dagli angeli al cospetto dell’Altissimo per ricevere la ricompensa del servitore buono e generoso.

Fr. Carlo Uccelli

On Sunday, December 5th, 2021, around noon, in the Mother House of Parma, our Confrere Fr. Carlo Uccelli died at the age of 82 after an unexpected and aggressive illness. He was born on June 22nd, 1939 in Piacenza.
In 1952, young Carlo entered the Diocesan Seminary of Bedonia (Province of Parma, but Diocese of Piacenza), where he received his High School education. In September 1956, he entered the Xaverian Novitiate House of San Pietro in Vincoli for his year of Novitiate.
After the celebration of his First Religious Missionary Profession (San Pietro in Vincoli, September 12th, 1957), Carlo’s formation continued by following the then standard curriculum: College Years in Desio (1957-1960), Propaedeutic in Parma (1960-1961), Prefect of Students in Cremona (1961-1962), and Theology in Rome (1962-1967) where he obtained a licentiate degree in Theology at the Angelicum University.
Fr. Carlo Uccelli was ordained to the Priesthood in Parma on October 17th, 1965.
Upon completing his theological studies, Fr. Carlo Uccelli was assigned to the CSAM of Parma as Vocation Promoter (1967-1971). From 1968 to 1970 he was appointed Delegate for all the Xaverian Houses of Formation in Italy. Later he was assigned as Rector to the Xaverian House of Formation in Cagliari and Director of its Missionary Youth Center (1971-1974). Moreover, he spent one year in Ostia (a coastal town in the municipality of Rome), engaged in activities of human promotion (1974-1975).
In 1975, Fr. Carlo Uccelli was assigned to missionary work in Zaire (present-day Democratic Republic of the Congo). After a few months studying French in Paris and then the Swahili Language in Kiringe, he worked as Assistant Parish Priest in Shabunda (1976-1977) and Kakutya (1977-1978). Later he went to Bunyakiri, where he first worked as Assistant Parish Priest (1978-1983) and then as Parish Priest (1983-1985).
In 1985, Fr. Carlo Uccelli returned to Italy and spent a period of absence (1985-1998). In 1998, he was definitely assigned to the Xaverian Region of Italy, where he carried out the project of a “Missionary Fraternity Center” in Piombino, Diocese of Massa Marittima and Livorno (1986-2019); that project emphasized “Christian community” as “fraternity” made up of lay people and priests “co-responsibly” committed to living communion and mission, each according to his/her own specific role and service.
On June 2nd, 2019, the Missionary Fraternity Center closed. After a few months, Fr. Carlo was assigned by the Xaverian Italian Region to the “Inter-congregational Community” of Modica (Ragusa), formed by men and women Religious at the service of migrants, as well as committed to raising awareness among both local and larger civil society about the painful reality of immigration.
“The first testimony that strikes me is that of living together with two priests and two families with children who, before ‘ever doing’, want to be disciples of the Lord, weavers with Him of a renewed, fraternal life, capable of forgiveness and mutual acceptance. A life of fraternal communion, therefore, which, precisely because they have experienced it among themselves in both joy and fatigue, immediately opens up to communion with the local people and becomes a mission that proclaims the Good News of Jesus, and becomes solidarity with people’s efforts, hopes, and needs for a more human life” (2002, after a visit to Mozambique).
In October, due to a devastating illness which had quickly revealed its seriousness, Fr. Carlo Uccelli was forced to move to the Xaverian Mother House of Parma. On December 5th, 2021, Fr. Carlo Uccelli was brought by the Angels before the Most High to receive the reward of the good and generous servant.
