NOTE BIOGRAFICHE DI P. VITO SCAGLIUSO (1944-2026)
Lunedì 22 giugno 2026, alle ore 20,45, ore locali, al Pronto Soccorso dell’Ospedale Maggiore di Parma, è deceduto il nostro confratello p. Vito Scagliuso. P. Vito aveva 82 anni compiuti essendo nato il 30 gennaio 1944 a Castellana Grotte, Bari, Italia.
Dopo aver frequentato le scuole medie presso il Seminario Vescovile di Conversano, Bari, Italia (1955-1960), e il liceo classico presso il Seminario Regionale Pugliese di Molfetta, Bari, Italia (1960-1963), il 2 ottobre 1963, all’età di 19 anni, Vito entra nella casa saveriana di Nizza Monferrato, dove vive l’anno di Noviziato. Il 3 ottobre 1964 emette la prima Professione Religiosa e Missionaria.
Frequenta il primo anno di teologia nello Studentato Teologico di Parma (1964-1965). Poi va ad Ancona per fare l’Anno di Prefettato (1965-1966). Ritorna ancora a Parma per completare gli studi teologici (1966-1970). A Parma emette la Professione Perpetua il 12 settembre 1969 e viene ordinato Presbitero l’11 ottobre 1969.
Dopo un periodo di servizio come Vicerettore nella comunità di Ancona (1970-1972), p. Vito si prepara per la partenza in missione (1972-1973). Il suo primo servizio missionario lo svolge in Indonesia (1973-1978). Dopo lo studio della lingua a Padang (1973-1974), viene nominato Cappellano prima a Padang Baru (1974-1975) e poi a Air Molek (1975-1977). Qui diventa anche Parroco per alcuni mesi (dal 1° febbraio al 1° ottobre 1977).
Dopo un Anno Sabatico a Roma – Via Tardini (1977-1978), p. Vito viene destinato alla Regione italiana (1978-1985). Nella scuola apostolica di Salerno presta servizio come Animatore interno (1978-1982) e come Sostituto del Rettore (1981-1982). In seguito va al Collegio Conforti di Roma, dove frequenta l’Università Urbaniana ottenendo il Baccellierato in Missiologia (1982-1983). Conclusi questi studi si sposta prima a Londra e poi a Glasgow per lo studio dell’inglese (1983-1985).
Dopo lo studio dell’inglese, p. Vito viene destinato alla Sierra Leone (1985-1997). Qui il suo servizio alla missione è molteplice: Direttore Spirituale al seminario diocesano di Makeni (1986), Cappellano a Port Loko (1986-1987), Segretario vescovile a Makeni (1987-1988), Cappellano e, poi, Parroco a Lungi (1988-1994), Aggiornamento a Roma-Collegio Conforti (1994-1995), Cappellano a Magburaka (1995-1996). Conclude il suo servizio in Sierra Leone con un anno di aggiornamento al Collegio Conforti (1996-1997).
Finito l’anno di aggiornamento, p. Vito è destinato alla Regione italiana dove svolge il suo servizio come visitatore PPOOMM nei seminari diocesani d’Italia (1997-2002).
Dopo la sua partecipazione al corso dei TreMesi di Tavernerio nel 2002, p. Vito viene destinato alla Sierra Leone dove svolge il servizio di Rettore della comunità di Lungi (2003-2005).
Dopo un periodo di aggiornamento in Italia (2005-2006), la Direzione Generale destina p. Vito alla Delegazione Centrale (2006-2014). Dopo un periodo trascorso al Collegio Conforti di Roma (2006-2009), ottiene il permesso di svolgere l’apostolato presso la “Custodia di Terra Santa” (2009-2013).
Nel 2014 p. Vito passa definitivamente alla Regione Italiana dove è impegnato nel ministero in diverse comunità: Parma (2014-2018), Vicenza (2018-2019), Udine (2019-2021). Dal 2021 risiede nella Casa Madre di Parma in cura e nella disponibilità per il ministero e altri servizi richiesti dalla comunità.

Dopo aver interrogato l’anima mia ed essermi consigliato con il M. R. Padre Maestro, assicurato che la grazia del Signore mi condusse fin qui, umilmente le sottometto la brama che io sento di far parte della prediletta Famiglia Saveriana.
Le faccio perciò domanda di essere ammesso alla Professione dei Voti religiosi con il proposito fermo di attuare nel miglior modo per me possibile quei santi principi – forza – via- sprone per la maggior gloria di Dio e la salvezza dei fratelli.
Gesù salvatore, Maria Santissima e S. Francesco Saverio facciano della mia povera vita un abisso di bene per molti e un danno per nessuno.

A seguito dell’aggravarsi delle sue condizioni di salute, il 22 giugno 2026 p. Vito viene portato al Pronto Soccorso dell’Ospedale Maggiore di Parma. Da qui, sale in Cielo per contemplare la Gloria dell’Altissimo e partecipare della Vita Eterna.

BIOGRAPHICAL NOTES ON FR. VITO SCAGLIUSO (1944–2026)
On Monday, June 22, 2026, at 8:45 p.m. local time, at the Emergency Room of the Ospedale Maggiore in Parma, our confrere, Fr. Vito Scagliuso, passed away. Fr. Vito was 82 years old, having been born on January 30, 1944, in Castellana Grotte, Bari, Italy.
After middle school at the Diocesan Seminary of Conversano, Bari, Italy (1955–1960), and the classical high school at the Apulian Regional Seminary in Molfetta, Bari, Italy (1960–1963), on October 2, 1963, at the age of 19, Vito entered the Xaverian house of formation in Nizza Monferrato for his novitiate year. On October 3, 1964, he made his first Religious and Missionary Profession.
He completed his first year of theology at the Xaverian Theologate in Parma (1964–1965). He then went to Ancona to serve his year as Prefect (1965–1966). He returned to Parma to complete his theological studies (1966–1970). There he made his Perpetual Profession on September 12, 1969, and was ordained to the Priesthood on October 11, 1969.
After serving as Vice-Rector in the community of Ancona (1970–1972), Fr. Vito got ready to leave for the missions (1972–1973). His first mission assignment was Indonesia (1973–1978). After studying the language in Padang (1973–1974), he was named associate pastor first in Padang Baru (1974–1975) and then in Air Molek (1975–1977), where he also served as parish priest for several months (from February 1 to October 1, 1977).
Following a sabbatical year in Rome—Via Tardini (1977–1978), Fr. Vito was assigned to the Italian Region (1978–1985). At the Minor seminary in Salerno, he served as a formator (1978–1982) and as Substitute Rector (1981–1982). He then moved to the Conforti College in Rome, where he attended the Pontifical Urbaniana University and earned a BA degree in Missiology (1982–1983). Upon completing his studies, he moved first to London and then to Glasgow to study English (1983–1985).
After completing his English studies, Fr. Vito was assigned to Sierra Leone (1985–1997). During these years he carried out a wide variety of ministries: Spiritual Director at the Diocesan Seminary in Makeni (1986); Chaplain in Port Loko (1986–1987); Secretary to the Bishop in Makeni (1987–1988); Chaplain and later Parish Priest in Lungi (1988–1994); a period of ongoing formation at Conforti College in Rome (1994–1995); and Chaplain in Magburaka (1995–1996). He concluded his service in Sierra Leone with another year of ongoing formation at Conforti College (1996–1997).
At the end of this renewal year, Fr. Vito was assigned to the Italian Region, where he served as a PPOOMM visitor in diocesan seminaries throughout Italy (1997–2002).
After participating in the “TreMesi” course in Tavernerio in 2002, Fr. Vito was reassigned to Sierra Leone, where he served as Rector of the Xaverian community in Lungi (2003–2005).
After another period of ongoing formation in Italy (2005–2006), the General Direction assigned Fr. Vito to the Central Delegation (2006–2014). After spending some time at the Collegio Conforti in Rome (2006–2009), He received permission to carry out his ministry with the “Custody of the Holy Land” (2009–2013).
In 2014, Fr. Vito was permanently assigned to the Italian Region, where he served in various communities: Parma (2014–2018), Vicenza (2018–2019), and Udine (2019–2021). Beginning in 2021, he resided at the Xaverian Motherhouse in Parma for medical care while being available for ministry and other services requested by the community.

After examining my conscience and consulting with the M.R. Novice Master, and assured that the Lord’s grace has led me this far, I humbly present to you my heartfelt desire to become a member of the beloved Xaverian Family.
I therefore ask to be admitted to the Profession of Religious Vows with the firm resolve to live, to the best of my ability, those holy principles—strength, path, and inspiration—for the greater glory of God and the salvation of my brothers and sisters.
May Jesus the Savior, the Most Holy Virgin Mary, and St. Francis Xavier make my poor life a boundless source of good for many and cause of harm to none.

As his health deteriorated, Fr. Vito was taken to the Emergency Room at the Ospedale Maggiore in Parma on June 22, 2026. From there, he ascended to Heaven to contemplate the Glory of the Most High and share in the fullness of Eternal Life.
