Currently, the Democratic Republic of Congo is the largest producer of coltan in the world. In this African country, - which lives the so-called “resource curse” - the illegal market has taken over. With all the repercussions in terms of exploitation of workers (especially minors and women), displaced persons and armed conflicts. Furthermore, for decades, this corner of Africa - especially in the Kivu region - has been living in an (armed!) conflict based on the fight for the control of this natural heritage.
